GoProHD: worth it or go traditional?

PRO gopro:
1080 resolution for the $
put anywhere in car/bike

PRO handycam:
use other than moto/car
1080 quality diminishes on meTube + who actually has the BW and 1080 monitors that watch in HD anyway?

Im pretty much split between. RELP.

I have used a goPro ultrawide HD one and its awesome good really good vid. The only problem i had with it is the edges make the speed miss leading by making it seem like your going faster than you are and you cant zoom in on them.

They are a great camera though and worth every penny.

i have a decent computer, but it can't handle editing in 1080i....and a 10 minute 1080i clip is gonna be huge...depending on your renders and qaulity of fps you choose....we film our stunt clips in 720 so i can edit them!

I have the GoPro HD and it works great. I use it mostly for track video. If you are going to burn your video to DVD and watch it on your big screen TV then HD is the way to go. If you are just going to upload to youtube or watch on the computer then you could probably get by with the non-HD version of the GoPro. You can't beat the small size, rugged, and waterproof housing for use on a bike.

If you're going to use your camera to shoot other video that doesn't require small size and wide angle lens then you may be better off with a handycam. It can work on a bike but it is a little bigger and not as rugged. It really depends what your main expected use is.

A servo came loose in my plane, and it nosed over from 100 + feet up. nose first into the hard dirt.

GOPRO was turned off when I got to it. when I turned it on, it said SOS. and only deleted the last 10 seconds of flight.

it is a VERY STURDY camera. for the extra 100 dollars difference, go HD . you will thanks us.

I dont have a vid cam... I might be able to use the goPro for non-zoom stuff (like party's and such) but not for my bro's sports or grad etc...

Honestly, I really would like the goPro because I like to be a moto-vid cam guy not just on moto rides but on the local "Mexican" fwy drags...

I have the HD Gopro but my laptop can't process the info fast enough. The video looks very choppy, not good at all. Its been a hassle for me..

I went back to my old school Gopro for now.

What are the specs of your laptop? Unless the laptop's one of the more recent ones with HD vid capability vid card, tons of memory and dual core I think laptops arent going to manage hq vids.

no laptop that i know of is gonna do it nicely....my wifes xps barely would edit 720 and it was chop chop and would render it all nasty... you need at least 1 gig graphics card, and 8 gigs ddr3 ram

Thought so. I need an upgrade in the CPU dept as well.

Current specs:
pentium dual core 2.8
2gig 667
GeForce 8600 GT - 256

I might be able to edit vids 720 vids if I upgrade vid card to 1gig and bump up to 4gig mem.

Problem found: celeron 2.2 processor.

I guess I could download an HD clip and see if the machine can edit it...

I'll definitely be ordering one of these, can't beat the price! However you can only do about 70 minutes on the battery they say. Unless you wired up a charger like the one below.

Anyone know if there is something like this mini usb available stateside?
http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTORCYCLE-MINI-...#ht_878wt_1165

If not I guess I'll just eat the shipping costs on it later
