Need a front wheel for CRF250X tard

Figured I would check here.

A friend showed up at GSS to watch the motards and caught the bug. He has a CRF250X that is street legal so I told him he ought to convert what he already has.

He has already ordered a rear wheel of of eBay, but is not having luck finding a front 17 inch wheel. eBay and SMJ have been checked.

I have an extra set of KTM wheels, but that won't do any good. Does anyone happen to have a CRF250X front 17 they want to sell? Not looking for anything perfect, but it must be sound. Cosmetics aren't a problem if it is nicked up, etc.

I know he can buy the rim and lace it, but he is looking for a turnkey ready to bolt on wheel.

I have suggested he may want to find a F3 front wheel (cheap) and have it machined to fit, but I don't know what all is involved with that. I have seen it done a few times though, so I assume it is easier (cheaper) than others.

Any help would be appreciated. I think if he can get it sorted, he will be at the GSS motard track day that is held next.

Also, any gearing recommendations for GSS on a CRF250X welcome.

Thanks,
Staton

I'm fairly certain the 250x and 450x use the same wheel.
That means he can use a 450R wheel which would be much easier to find.
He will have to use a 450R axle also to accomidate the lack of the 250x stock odometer.
Good luck with your hunt.

We had thought they were the same. Thanks for the info confirming it.

Anyone know if any other wheels cross reference? XR400R, XR650 R or L?

You can use the search button on bike bandit to cross ref. Not many people know that. Just find the part number and search for it. Then click on "fits machines" to see what else uses that exact part number.

I use bike bandit all the time and never knew that. Cool. It will help me cross reference motard wheels for the DRZ250 (later, after I unload my KTM extra set of KTM wheels).

Thanks,

SS

Thanks Staton. I'm the one who's looking for the front wheel. Have a rear wheel in box haven't looked at it yet. Also what type of gearing do you guys recommend for the crf250x motard?

Many thanks!

I run 14/43 on my 450x with 17" wheels and it tops out around 100.
You probably want to try something a little shorter to help get that 250 up to speed a little quicker.

Can you do something like 15/40? I am fairly sure of the 40 but will the countershaft support a 15?

There isn't enough room for a 15 on mine. At least it doesn't look like it will fit.
I would definetly go with a 14 front and play around with the rear. Maybe a 46 or soo.

FWIW, I ran a 13/45 on my wr250x. Stock is 13/42 for me, and I dropped ~10-13mph as top speed--top speed is around 88ish now.

Various Equipment for various uses.
Dirt, Street, Track, Dual Sport, I like em all.

You can call Rad Manufacturing and get them to build a Rad Hex Hub and proper rim for it if you want. Thats turnkey, but not sure how much to do all that. They make quality stuff though. I have dealt with them a few times and it was all good.
