Anyone...Aprilia Ride Smart 125?

Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to make the Aprilia Ride Smart 125 street legal in the US? It'd be a big help!

Thanks

Hmm, I hear they are getting pretty tough on registering grey market bikes here in Texas.

Do you have a title for it, or does it even have a full US vin#?
You will have to be able to prove ownership first and foremost.

Ohh, and welcome to the board.
Bring that thing out to GSS. Would be fun in the new lightweight class they are running.

Thanks Scorpio,

I actually do not own the bike yet. I'm living in Italy this summer from May to August and I was going to buy one and ship it over if I could somehow make it street legal.

Call AF1 Racing in New Braunfels, I know they have done a couple.

Alright thanks Brandon,

This is just for people to know that yes AF1 racing will fix your bike up to make it possible for you to legally ride on the street, but it will never fully be legal. It can be considered under "specials" but it depends on the leniency of the state you live in.

In Texas you can't "legally" have a 2-stroke over 49cc on the street. However I have heard heard of a few people getting them registered.

Hey Intermission,

Could you follow on those stories that you heard? I contacted AF1 racing and that's what they told me in my previous post.

It is cheaper to buy it there, ship it here than just get it here? If I remember correctly they were being sold in the US for like 5k bucks.

Well it seems after looking around for a few days I've come to the conclusion that yes, you can register and get the rs125 titled, though that doesn't mean it is street legal and if enforcement authority realizes it, he can take away your registration and title. SOOO, I guess it's just a matter of taking the risk to do it.

Are you sure about that? I know i've seen a street legal 250 2-stroke a time or two on our streets.

There are quite a few big bore 2 strokes running around texas. . .after all, most of the sportbikes you guys ride have 2 stroke ancestry leading quite a ways back, not to mention all the old enduro bikes that are out there. I should also state that I haven't read the rules and regs in a few years and this is from memory alone. Some states are quite leniant on their registration laws, texas is not.

your better of $ wise just buying a ninja 250.

having 125 trainers in class and riding them, i wouldn't (w/ my fat ) think they have enough hp for the street, and the Rs125 would prolly fall in the same boat.

i;ve seen RS250s "street" legal, but they really weren't for beginner riders,
