I know it's good South of I-10. A few weeks ago it was torn up on the North side. They had removed sections of pavement

I went through there this past Saturday and everything was repaved and really smooooth except for one small section of the East bound lane that had not been paved right around one of the bridges. There were huge bumps/drops at the bridge but they will probably have it finished by this Saturday. I wish the people who pave the race tracks could get them this smooth. They also added about 4-5 feet of shoulder on each side which is nice. Watch for a few loose rocks if they have not run the sweeper yet.

8:15 @ PP1, I'll try to make it but I'm not gonna' promise anything. And I have an EZ tag. If halve of the people have easy tags, we could ride through the tolls side by side and it would seem like a really short wheelbase car went through the toll.

how to get here

The actual name of the road is FM1458 and runs from Pattison, TX down across I-10 down to Fullshear, TX. If you google map it you'll see that you can run from Fullshear up to Monaville on 359 and it's a nice cruise... then cross on 529 and come back down to Brookshire on 362... lotsa nice curves and some decent scenery.

If you're going to be out this weekend, I have a few recommendations (since I live here I know the road conditions better than most)...

1) Take a couple of passes over the road before you "haul "... there is a lot of loose gravel the size of small boulders from the trucks and local farmers coming on and off the highway. It's going to be like that until the gravel packs down and until they are actually finished with the entire job (as they are still coming on and off the road a lot). If you take a few scouting runs, you'll know where to slow up and watch for trash in the road.

2) Watch for the bicyclers... they have been out in force every weekend and they like to ride 3 wide like they don't have to obey traffic laws like the rest of us. Luckily, the sherrif's dept has been cracking down on them for riding in packs instead of single file.

3) Don't haul through the brookshire area... the cops there don't mess about... if they tag you for more than 10 over, they will throw you in jail for the entire of the weekend and impound your bike... they pretty much the typical "small town" douchebags that you'd think they are. LOL

4) If you see a fat guy on a blue SV... don't crowd him... he's old and slow and looks a lot like me. Thanks. LOL

Hope to see some folks out here ... I'll be out and about early Saturday morning... the "Monument" and the Outlet Mall (where the Kawi shop used to be). both make good meeting spots... Also, don't be afraid to head north on 359 towards Hempstead... the first half of that ride has a few nice curves and some nice scenery. Just watch the turn Bozeman road because it's a blind curve with 2 intersections in the middle of it going both ways and there have been a LOT of fatalities ... The "parrot" in Monaville makes a good spot to stop and there's fuel right accross the street.

BTW... if we get a regular group of guys that want to ride out here, I live right on FM 1458 and would consider hosting bar-b-q's once in a while... This is my first post on here... I've been on SV forums mostly... a friend in conroe turned me on to this one so I promised I'd check it out...

so last week, we did crabb (first time there). it was described to me as long, fun sweepers. also did a few parade laps at gss (first time on a track). found it to be quite technical.

what would RR be described as?

thanks man... I like your blurb about dragging helmets... I got hit by a drunk driver last fall and drug my helmet a good 1/2 a block... LOL

I don't care what anyone says... KBC helmets are TOUGH!!! and wearing armor when you ride is the only way to go.

I'd say it's a good spot for anyone... I've seen people who cruise through at 55 and I've seen the rice-rockets coming through at 155... google map it and check it out... once the gravel gets cleared off it's going to be great... the tarmac is still sticky because it's fresh... even on my cheapo dunlop sportmax tires I stick to it like I'm glued down. The curves range from tight to sweeping... but all are managable and predictable on the south end of 1458... the other good runs are 359 and 362 south of 529 west. I'll try and post a highlighted map of a route I like to ride on pretty days...

route idea

OK... I think this will work... I just highlighted a route for a combination of scenery, curves, straight lines, and it's a loop so you can have meetup/stopping spots planned along the way... Just my 2 cents... I don't wanna hi-jack this guys ride thread... Sorry if it seemed that way.

Would I be able to pick up with you guys as you pass through, instead of going all the way into town? If so... count me in...

I just got my sprockets and chain today, and my suspension set up.
so things should be fun.
