Powdercoating Motorcycle Rims?

Has anyone had any experience having Rims powdercoated? I bought an 01 GSXR1000 and it has two mismatched colored rims(gold and gray), i would like to have them powdercoated back to gray. Ive heard there is a possibility that the baking process will cause the rims to become brittle and possibly fail? Anyone have any experience with this?

And im assuming that everything has to be stripped off the rim? what do i need to do to prep them? mask off the bearing surfaces?

Thanks!!

i believe the bearings have to be completely removed...MANY ppl have powdercoated their rims, and i have yet to hear of any rim failure due to this...

Do a search for threads started by ScooterTrash. You'll see all kinds of neat stuff he's done, including many many rims.

Powdercoating Motorcycle Rims?
NewRims

The wife had hers done a couple of months ago.

$80 a rim for motohouston members. More if you go with something more elaborate.
