getting title for bike with lost title...

well I know similar question came up before...

My friend has a 250 that he said he will sell me, he bought it about 2 years ago and got the title with the bike. but he never registered it and he has lost the title now. If I buy the bike from him, will I be able to get the title for the bike? and what would I have to do?

Just thinking about buying it if he sells it cheap for a little side project....

Bonded title or mechanic's lien, unless you know the first owner.

yeah dont know first owner... how does a bonded title work?

craigntx, I think your talking about if my friends name was on the title... but he bought the bike and never registered it. He had the title and signed but lost it. So his name isnt on the title...

Do a search, there are several companies many folks have used.

http://www.dmv.tx.gov/vehicles/titles/bonded.htm <<< here is the Bonded Title Procedure...

seems kinda complicated and dont know how much it'll cost. Plus how long it'll take. anyone have experience doing this and know how much time/money it takes?

bonded title is expensive. it's what you do if you can't provide the original title. It's essentially a gaurantee that you pay so that if the bike comes back stolen and the owner claims it, your money goes to pay for it. You pretty much need to pony up in excess of $2K --(I could be wrong about the specifics - but this was something I considered when I had lost a title to a truck. Luckily I found it!!)

bonded title cost me $167 for my bike, same situation.
go to TxDOT vehicle titles and registration on 7721 washington ave 77007 and you have to fill out a few papers. Then head to ABC insurance and bonding services off westheimer 7137822886 to have the title bonded no more then $200. Last you head to your local court house to pay taxes to apply for the title, pay the taxes and fees about $330 and receive your blue title in about 2 weeks. Pretty simple at the end of the day ended up paying about $500

The office on 290 and mangum is open again, but it has nothing to do with getting your title

Close, but not that one. He needs to go to the one in Washington Ave., just north of I-10. 5 bucks for a certified copy of the Title. They'll print it right there. Easy. The current Owner needs to get it.
