Navigator is coming, not pending. He's an asset on any ride he comes on. Very glad to have him.

Thank everyone for considering this endurance ride to the 3 Sisters and back.

Below is recommended/required information for the safety of the group and well being.

Bikes:

1) Make sure your tires have bare minimum 50% tread remaining. Keep in mind we will be seeing upwards of 800-1000 miles depending on final routes.

2) Oil maintenance, chain, fluids, brakes all in good working oil AND BIKE RIDDEN AFTER MAINTENANCE TO ENSURE LEAKS DONT OCCUR. Dont make last minute repairs on your bikes to make this ride.

3) Know your average mpg/tank mileage and deduct 50miles. The person w the lowest number will be the one the gas stops will be scheduled around. ONCE WE GET OUT OF BANDERA, EVERYONE FILLS UP AT EACH GAS STOP.

4) Everyone should carry a radiator paste(if water cooled) and a tire patch kit. I will bring a tow strap, lense cleaner and rag, zip ties and other necessities.

5) Luggage: the less you bring the better. But plan accordingly. If you plan to wear a sweater, bring a net or someway to carry it when it gets hotter etc.

6) Pack the bike the night before, going through your checklist. Verify proof of insurance, ICE, license etc is on the vehicle. Ensure nothing is hanging down, any potential problems are remedied.

7) +++++ IF YOU ARE ON THIS RIDE, YOUR BIKE MUST HAVE MIRRORS +++++

Gear:

1) This is a distance ride but w curves. Remember to gear up according to what you want the ambulance to pull off of you.

2) The less you wear the less weight you carry however your protection goes down.

3) Highly recommend a comfortabe, well fitting helmet w clear lense, good knuckle-protection gloves, leather jacket w good perforation, riding boots.

4) Recommend under armour to help cool the body and prevent rash from gear buffing over time.

Personal:
1) Recommend carb-up night before(spagetti etc) hydrate well the night before, do not over drink the day of.

2) EVERYONE WILL SMELL BY THE END OF THE DAY! Dont fret. lol

3) Recommend carrying enough cash(PM for info) and a plastic card. We will eat 50-100 per bike for the day.

4) Camelback is not a bad idea(so long as filled w water)

5) Audio devices are recommended as long as not blasting. Turn it off when we hit the backroads.

Commute over:

1) We will be leaving the planned spot at the time specified.

2) Anyone that wants to be picked up on the way, be ready and catch us on the freeway. We arent stopping.

3) Route speed is as specified, stops for gas only on our commute over. First planned stop will be in Bandera.

4) Staggered formation, ride w your highbeams off. If there is an issue the lights come on, hands up.

5) ALWAYS, THE WHOLE RIDE, KEEP THE PERSON INFRONT OF YOU AND BEHIND YOU IN YOUR SIGHT, AT ALL TIMES,,,, PERIOD.

Backroads:
1) Average speed will be the speed limit, regardless of the corner speed recommendations.

2) Be honest with your ability, fall into the group accordingly.

3) On straight aways, the faster/forward peeps will slow down for the remainder of the group to catch up.

4) We will have stops on the ride for pictures. Each stop will be signaled before stopping w a signal and hand up. Follow this signal back.

Route:

From Motorcycles Unlimited:

i45 South
610 West
i10 West
HWY 90W
Loop 410N
16N/W
2828W

Stop in Bandera... first scheduled stop for break. Everyone checks air pressures/bikes.

337W

Stop for gas before proceding

55N
335N
41E
336S

Gas up, repeat if desired.

Return route, depends on all the riders based on most tired.

Original return route,

or

337E
187NE
39NE
27E
16NE
I10E(additional 150miles, cruise)

Afterparty, on me for those that want to hang out afterwards.

Otherwise, as we hit houston, say your good byes on the road. We are heading to steel city pizza in Spring. Text/post up when your home or safe.

PM response w recommendations/aggreement to these rules.

I need ICE information, your personal cell that will be on you during the ride, and if you have any problems/concerns w any others on the pending list for this ride. Send the PM only to me; I'll address those issues as needed.

ICE will be printed out and given to each person on the ride. That means each person on this ride will have your phone number. Be respectful of other peeps' personal number. The papers will be collected at the end of the ride.

A route guide will also be printed for each person to apply to their gas tank(blue tape) at our meet spot.

ROUTE, ETC NOT SET IN STONE; also done by memory

WE STILL HAVE ONE PENDING OPENING FOR ANYONE INTERESTED.

Vic is having her party that night too. You'll have to crash (spy) that party. They may enjoy the popping out of cake thing.

Thumbs up

Well I did this ride Saturday night...

Google Map

I left at 7:30 got to Kerrville around 2AM after some eats at Denny's in Fredericksburg. Can't even tell you how many fuel stops. But there were LOTS. I got home last night at 9:30pm. Great ride but I'm filling it today at work.

Be careful out there. The bugs were terrible ! handy wipes would be a good idea for the glasses/shields. Also, Johnny Law is out in force in Leakey, If the speed limit says 30 do 29 ~~!!!! 6 riders went down out there on Saturday, 1 sadly will never return. Be safe and have a great ride.

For gear, I would suggest a lower back support belt. You can pick one up at lowes/home depot for under 20 bucks. Your back will thank you after a very long ride.

You can puppy sit for us. Otherwise I think he will be in a kennel that night because we are not going to be making it home until the next day sometime.

Link==> I Escape to Mexico After Doing Three Sisters

Above is my ride report on The Three Sisters, which I rode on my way to Mexico. I just continued west and crossed the border at Del Rio.

There's also a last gas stop at Medina where RR337 starts. The name of the gas station is The Old Timer. You can get food there also. There's a picture of The Old Timer, some stops in Bandera, Leaky, etc. on my ride report link.

The only recommendation I would make is that you do not sightsee while you are on your mule. You will glimpse some nice vistas, but please don't take your eyes off of the road while riding. There are not many places to pullover and catch a view either. It's not a ride for hot-doggers or beginners, but it is a very enjoyable ride. On RR336 you will find cattle guards and free-ranging animals. Be careful.

Have fun!

Mike
