spark plug wires

i got a 2000 ninja 750, i was checking the plugs when i noticed the wires were bad. my question is i know this old bike dont have the coil over style wire so can i just use universal wires like the ngk/accel style and still be able to reuse the connector screw thing that screws into the coil? or is does this make model need a special style wire? looking for cheapest fix i dont like spending money on this bike
