Lane Splitting???

Moving to texas in 2 to 10 months...so Im not up on all the state laws yet. I see a lot of ppl riding around without helmets which looks like suicide to me. But to each there own. But anyways how about Lane Splitting? Legal or not? In Las Vegas where Im from it's not legal, but in the Cali it is legal. Im riding my RR out to Los Angeles this weekend to hang with some friends. And Lane Splitting is just part of the daily commute for riders there cause the traffic is sooo bad.

Not legal.. there was a bill attempted but it didn't make it to the floor of the House. I talked to the rep who pushed the bill and he said to look for it again next year.

As for the helmet, there IS a law but it's very lax. You just need to have sufficient medical coverage and/or have taken the MSF. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need an exeption sticker, you simply need to prove that you have taken the MSF by toting the certificate with you.

Or have a medical insurance card should be enough altho THAT won't keep them from stopping u in the first place.

I prefer to roll on the edge of the shoulder because there are way too many idiots switching lanes.

This is illegal as well, but I'm yet to get pulled over for it.

What is that supposed to mean X? I am corn-fused! lol.

Ok both of the post are confusing...He said he drives next to the shoulder. Is he passing traffic there within the same lane? Otherwise, he sounds like he is still in his lane. Which is legal. It would be illegal if he was passing cars in the same lane that he is driving in.

Another thing,
Is there a law pertaining to driving in an emergency lane? I havne't seen one yet and I am sure there is one reguarding its use.

Im a Firm Believer in helemts. I ended up under a car before and I know my helmet saved me. As for lane splitting imo I think there is definately a right and a wrong way of doing it. Heavy traffic 20cars deep at a red light, I dont see the prob with creepin up between the cars to get up front. Or in bumper to bumper freeway traffic 0 to 10mph, slowly cruisin up the center line as long as everyone is going slower, and then back in line when traffice is up to speed.

LOL yeah Ill have to watch out for those Dualies, those things are monsters.

also noted that u DO NOT have to have the sticker. U Just have to prove the MSF course OR the medical insurance card.

Have heard and don't know where that a guy got stopped for no helmet. showed the leo his DD-214 or SOMETHING, showing he was a veteran and was let off. Meaning he has government health insurance available.

I lane split all the time. Just gotta watch out for the red and blues before you do it. I only do it if im trying to get by someone and they dont wanna move. I wouldnt go cruise down the dotted line on the freeway though. lol
