2002 Yamaha r6 ENGINE KILLS WHEN PUT IN 1ST

Idles fine but when you put it in 1st it kills the engine.....What's the deal? Guy says it has a new clutch. The guy stripped it for the track and I want to put it back so I can get it inspected....Help!

Kick stand switch maybe broken. Its a safety switch that will not allow the bike to be ridden off with the kickstand down, so it shuts the engine off

Hmmmm... Thanks for the tip. I'm looking for a little help putting the bike back to street legal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm itching to ride my new toy. Actually my first bike. I've rode many in my years but never owned one myself. Other than taking it to the Yamaha dealership is there anyone interested in giving me a hand for beer or something? I'm a general contractor...Will trade for help

You guys rock! What a blessing... I have the origional front clip, and tail light. This weekend would be great for me. What do you call the inside plastics on the front clip, inside the fairing? It's missing some clips and screw/nuts? I don't know what all the parts are called but am excited to learn. Thanks for the tips. I will try the kickstand bypass this afternoon

NO..The kickstand switch is unplugged and I can't find a connector for it but there are two wires spliced together under the gas tank.....Should the circuit be open or closed for the kickstand switch?

Will it turn over if you put it in first and pull in the clutch? If thr bike thinks the kick stand is down it will not turn over even with the clutched pulled in..

No it won't turn over with it in gear and the clutch engaged. I think the connector for the kickstand switch is missing......? Nothing looks aftermarket under the gas tank

I looked up the wiring schematic online and the wires that are tied together go to the fuel sneder ( green and black ). The sidestand switch is unpluged and there is no connector to fit it that I can find....Ideas? Somebody tied the wrong wires together?

PICS

THis is the best I could do with the lighting in my garage tonight. I'm standing on the kickstand side of the bike for all three shots. The green and black wires are plugged into a blue connector but if I take the spliced side out of the connector the kickstand wire will not fit into the connector...Wierd? I looked up the wiring diagram and traced the color wires that the other blue connector is wired to and it's the fuel sender(?) There is no sidestand connector under the tank

clutch doesnt engauge

So we took the clutch apart bacuase it wouldn't disengauge. How many discs are in it? Mine has 8 & 8... it seems like the basket won't disengauge. All the parts are nice & shiny inside the housing. The electiral seems 2 be fine after checking continuity

Maybe your clutch cable is out of adjustment. If it doesn't pull far enough it would be like you didn't pull it at all.
