2005 chevy silverado radio codes

i have a 2004 Chevy Silverado and my radio went out so My bud gave me a radio out of a 2005 Silverado and its asking for radio codes. I called the dealer and they said I have to pay them $120 to get the codes. Can anyone help me out here before I get screwed by the dealer?

AFAIK, nothing you can do without having a Tech II. The radio is programmed to only pair with the VIN of the vehicle it was originally installed in(for anti-theft reasons). A dealer, or anyone with a Tech II, will need to rescan it for you. You should be able to get it done a good bit cheaper than $120 though.

if u can get the vin of the vehicle it came out of you can call the dealer from a "shop" and they should give it to u.
