Question about tolls

I had a friend tell me that bikes got to ride free on the toll roads. Is this true? Looking to get a bike in a month or so, and was wondering if I need to get an EZ tag for it or not.

+1, bikes have to pay the toll. We've also received word from the Constable's office that if a bike runs the toll (whitelining), they will be arrested and the bike impounded.

Just get the EZ tag. Be sure you tell them it's for a motorcycle. The motorcycle tag is different from the car tag.

As an afterthought: Are you sure your friend wasn't talking about HOV lanes? Bikes are allowed on all HOV lanes with only one rider.

Houston tolls are free for military, but that may not help you.

wow, thats a nice perk if one uses the toll alot... That just might have convinced me to go join the national guard.

@op:
welcome. getting a bike has way more perks that getting free toll. get your MSF, gear and bike. You will find that having to pay toll will be the last thing you will be thinking about.

I still need to get myself an ez tag. I dont mind riding 610though.

My EZ Tag only works when I have to take it out of breast pocket....but I hardly ride the tollway with my bike.

Its not entirely easy. You have to use the full service lanes, show your Mil ID and fill out some info, but yes it is nice. I have an Icon reflective vest with an ID pouch on the front that allows me to present the ID without having to dig it out of my wallet.

I had a class up at Westheimer and BW8 for a week and was really glad to not have to pay those tolls.

stupid

$10 to buy the eztag, then keep to the side of the lane as close to the line as possible and it probably won't pick up the tag. But like gt mentioned, if a cop is watching and pulls you over, you can whip out the tag and say, "Sorry officer, I guess the equipment isn't working because I have my eztag."

I have a question about EZ tags:

If I am towing my bike and I have an EZ tag in my truck and one in my bike trunk, will I be charged 2x?

it would only charge you if it actually gets read. most of the time it doesn't. to be safe, you can get an anti-static bag (silver bag u find on computer components) to place the bike tag in. Theres a store called Altex that sells them for 50 cents. Fry's sells them in 10 packs i think.

when i was in delaware, i got one for the jersey turnpike. they gave me a bag and told me to use it whenever i didnt want to use the tag.

I hear potato chip bags work as well. That is from watching the tele and of course you can believe everything you see there.
