Helping MH: Moto Alarm Raffle feeler...

So considering riding season is about to open up and with so many thefts on the rise, I was thinking about doing some sort of motorycle alarm raffle for those that dont have one or can't afford one. I just thought I'd post up to see what everyone else's opinions were.

I recently bought and installed a Gorilla alarm and it's worked fairly well so far. I dont know too many other name brands and this one seems to be a good generic starter with easy install and a wide distribution (Cycle Gear, amazon, KneeDraggers, Motorcycle-Superstore, New Enough, etc). They are about $80+ship at amazon.com. They are not top of the line, but could be the difference between a nice weekend ride or an empty parking spot <AND> another stolen bike thread.

Alarm: http://www.gorilla-auto.com/motorcycle.alarms
(Model #7007, blue box on the left side)

What I was considering was... buying maybe 3-4 alarms myself and having a M&G where I could raffle them off for say, $10 per ticket, max 10 tickets per alarm (any more tickets per alarm would diminish your chances of winning per the cost of alarm). After recovering my initial purchase funds, the rest would go directly to buying another set of alarms for another raffle, even if I have to put cash in again. None of this is for any personal gain or profit.

If this flies, I'd also be looking for some organization help and free/cheap install assistance from other members or shops. This would help insure that the alarm doesnt just go sit in a closet somewhere. I'd like to keep this to members that dont already have alarms, live or store their bike in a high theft area and most importantly ARE GOING TO INSTALL AND NOT RESELL FOR PROFIT. But certainly, all are welcome.

First I'd like some feedback since I haven't really thought this through, it was just an idea i got on my ride to work tonight. I'd also like to gauge what kind of interest there is out there since it would suck to buy 4 alarms and only have 15 interested and half of my own money down the drain. (For this scenario I've thought about a minimum of 10 tickets per alarm in order for that alarm to be raffled off. 20 tickets = 2 alarms only.) I've seen many raffles put up to help others, so MODS if this type of setup isn't allowed let me know.

I know many of you will say, if a thief wants your they'll take it. I know there are many downfalls with any given security system. My point here is not stop any theft, it's for added peace of mind and trying to help others. I'd like everyone's opinions on the raffle idea, setup, execution, meet spot, etc. Also let me know if you would be interested in the raffle itself, I'd like to know how many people would actually buy a ticket. Kind of a work in progress so we'll see how it goes.

Opinions?

This is true, the only downside I could see with this is mix-matched alarms.
"This alarm does this and is only worth this, while that alarm does more, but is harder to install. Why did he get that one, and I got this one? This one didn't work, I need my money back, where do I go for parts, refund, install assistance... etc."

I'd rather buy a batch of same alarms with simple install for the masses, than to mix and match off Ebay and risk getting an odd ball, losing money, etc... etc... I'm sure the risk is low in any case, but looking to simplify it.

If anyone can find an alarm with wider distribution (hence more support) and for a cheaper price, let me know. I was just going off the Gorilla alarm due to my personal experience. Besides, $10 for a chance to win a bike alarm seems reasonable, no?

If all this goes through, you can get as many as you like.

I think this is a good way of getting people to get their up and get an alarm. Im just now starting to look for alarms... Ill probably buy one ticket, but with my gambling luck, I doubt Ill get it

EDIT:
I might just buy an alarm and hold off buying a goproHD :(

Edit2:
Or I can get the alarm (+-100$) and have the GF buy the Gopro for me for my bday... WIN!

lol. I honestly like my exhaust note right now. Any louder is too much for my ears.

If I can get an exhaust that isnt godzilla in size but is as quiet as mine, ill probably buy that...

Anyone else in? Any opinions, positive or negative?

, I wish people were as interested in helping those who would benefit from an alarm as much as they are in talking smack once someone's bike gets stolen.

If that were the case, everyone's bike would have 2 alarms by now.

sounds legit. and if anybody has worries about, all transactions can be posted on the forum (like who bought how many tickets, applied towards which raffle, etc). and you can have another person keep track of the cash (to give a peace of mind to the people that don't think it is completely legit). basically controls.

Too few responses, not enough interest.
Posted this at the height of the stolen thread/ bikes found frenzy and figured there'd be enough replies to warrant raffling off at least 3 alarms.

Thought it'd be a good gesture, just not looking to lose any of my own money on it.
