Thumbs up 3 Sistas, 1 day...When a ForestGnome goes on vacation

K. So spring break plans changed; I have free time off.

I normally dont do things on spur of the moment but after being pointed to another thread I decided to plan/execute/ride and document a 3 sisters ride in 1 day. Just curious as to how 'do-able' it is and still be made enjoyable.

As usual, I gotta do it my way meaning I wont be home resting before riding out SWC movie nigh then Rookies. Leaving at 1am in the morning heading to San Antonio via i10, run the loops, stop in Bandera and return on i10 for St Patty's.

<<<Note I have old coworkers living in Leakey, other family in Austin. Im aware of the risks of riding at night/solo and sleep deprivation etc. Before lighting me on fire know I dont plan on riding this ride hard; its an endurance run. My longest 1 day ride start/finish was 910miles on the lowered busa Eastbound. Im curious to see how the unforgiving Hyo will do. >>>

Planned route, KSU 1am Wednesday at Rookies, Woodlands:
TwistedSisters6

Documentation/prep/planning starts Monday

Gas:
approx 200mls/tank.

Im plotting gas stops every 150 miles(or depending on gas gauge) on my phone (thank you Verizon ) as well as air pressure(easy ride killer.) Also plotting to stop at a shop in Austin to check oil level/add if necessary.

This will also give me time to stretch between runs.

Carry-ons:
-Tire patch kit
-Water bottle
-Sunglasses(if eye bothering me after pending surgery monday)
-ICE, in every pocket of my jacket, taped to the tank and to back of my helmet.
-Camera/batteries
-Halfsleeve sweater, extra socks, windex and lense cleaner(yeah bug season!)
-Emergency Cash
-Protection

Gear:
-Because of the nature of the ride I'll be wearing a full lined jacket, full gloves, boots, helmet and 7spline back protector. No lowers due to flexibility and comfort over time.

Pre-bike prep:
-oil/air check
-clean forks, pads, check all brakes
-tape ICE and directions to tank w bluetape
-EXTRA SET OF KEYS AND ALARM in left side jacket pocket and zipped shut for remainder of trip... you never know when you're gonna lose keys.
-waterproof rear trunk w plasticbag incase of rain.
-install rear deflector stickers(additional) to be seen better at night.

Rider Prep:
-Early dinner w CARBS! Spagetti
-Water in morning day before, gatorade in the evening.
-Light cardio in the morning, rest the remainder of the day

Very good point. That's always one of my biggest concerns; or at least was. The 600 I had was a touring bike w no coolers whatsoever

My oil cooler sits really high behind the headlight and vents infact. The front fender and cowling wouldnt allow very much through. I still have the option to cover it w chickenwire at work.

Sounds like a good plan only I wouldn't go through Austin - too far North. I-10 West and then up through Luling (about 145 miles from Houston - good first stop) and up to San Marcos (skirt the congested town center); then 12 and 32 to 473 which takes you to Kerrville (to pick up 39) or Medina (via 16 or 2828) to begin 337. Only a suggestion . . . I haven't done it in a day . . . yet. DO IT!

KSU at 1am... Awesome!!!

I wish I had a chance to say I did something like this, but with work and my love of sleeping the short amount of hours I already get, I can't make this. On a sidenote, that's some serious riding and I'm sure we'll have to get one of those inflatable donut things for your @$$ when you all get back.

Sounds like -numbing fun!

My folks will be at out house in Hunt during the break. Right off hwy 39 between Hunt and Ingram.

Hopefully you wont need it, but its a viable pit stop if you need.

I would just need to call and let them know whats up

"Hey mom, there's going to be a grown man riding a bright yellow bike with a whole bunch of stickers on it dropping by."

But seriously. PM if you want my number.

Good luck, cant wait to see the write up!
