Dealership Question

So I am in the market for a new bike. I'm looking new & used. I have a question on dealerships and pricing. I've never bought a brand new bike. I was looking at a new 2008 CBR600 for around $8500. Realistically, if I walked in there cash in hand what would be a good OTD price? Feel free to let me know of any good deals you may have seen on new bikes as well. I prefer the CBR first, after that that I am open for the right deal.

My rule of thumb was that if I could get the OTD price just under the MSRP, I was happy. That would apply to a current, in demand bike, not a leftover that was being unloaded at low prices (like the CBR1000's recently).

But that seems like I would be leaving money on the table if I applied that to some of the deals I have seen in the last year or so.

There is nothing wrong with leftovers, I usually buy them, but at a much lower OTD price than MSRP. For a 2008, I'd try harder. Wild West has a 2009 listed on their website as listed below:

2009 CBR600RR MSRP $10,499 Sale $8,999.

If you are a good negotiater, I bet you could get the 8500 deal.

When it comes down to it, a good deal is where you walk out happy; regardless of what anybody else says later about what they could have done.

This might help.

Apparently somewhere between $6,300 and $7,000 before tax/tags.

I think you can still get brand new 2009 zx6r for 6599+ttl in La Marque. Heck of a deal for middleweight winner for most mags last year. Don't know anything about the dealer though (mainland cycle).

I think its usually around $500 for dealer prep and then 6.25 percent for Taxes

Don't quote me on this, but I've _heard_ that dealer prep is already paid to the dealer by the manufacture. The amount they charge the customer is bonus money for them.

I bought 3 new from them. Ask for Albert (owner). Princess, Boo, Ormand, and a handful of others did the same. No one could beat and some didn't even match his price at the time of each sale.

Call around and ask for the OTD price, many will quote you low to bring you in and then hit you with these additional fees.

correct. When I worked for a local bike shop "not going to name it because they suck" But that's all it is. Extra money they made you memorize saying "yeah it's 8000 + Prep and Freight. Every time if you said a price w/o that they got angry.

lol it's added fee's you dont have to pay at all if you argue enough.
