Buddy's '06 GSX-R600 vs. Tree. Who wins?

My friend wa ridning south on 290 on Friday night when a dualie lost a mattress in the freeway ahead of him. The car in front of him swerved to miss the mattress - by the time he saw the mattress it was too late and he clipped it. The collision sent him veering to the right where he tapped the rear of another truck. he fell of he bike and rolled down the freeway where he was luckily missed by traffic. The bike decided to commit suicide and jumped the grass, went across the feeder into a tree.

The dudes in the dualie jumped out, loaded up their mattress and took off. Witnesses got license plates but the cops didn't really seem to care. He's working on tracking them down now on his own. Only had limited liability on the bike (that he's had for three months) so if he can't find them he's assed out. Strange that the cops would just ignore the 5 witnesses on the scene, eh? Oh well.

This used to be a nice bike:

I thought about that right as I posted it, lol.

He just about lost a knee cap - doesn't even know how many staples/stitches he got.

holy !!!! that sucks...it amazes me how many people drive around this city without being pulled over for unsecure loads. people are dumbasses and have no concern for others around them....like this guy. I pack my truck down when working or going to the track, but I use like 6 tie downs to keep that locked down.

dumbass

The only thing connecting the neck of the frame/front forks to the rest of the bike were the throttle cables. When I pulled the forks to the bed of my truck I just yanked the throttle bodies right off of the motor. The only thing good I see on the bike is the rear tire and possibly the swinger. I don't even think the motor is salvageable. Look at how the frame broke.

Fleeing the scene is a pretty serious offense. Even if the cops didn't care much, there should be an investigator assigned to the case that will care. If he has the correct plate they will haul his in.

That reallllllly sux. Glad he's alive, but it still sucks, especially that new of a bike (to him). Hope he is able to work something out. That would still be a tough battle even if he tracks them down.

I would raise with the officer's supervisor / investigator till I got them to take some action and at least get you the guy who was hauling the mattress's insurance information. The liability lies with person hauling the mattress. I would probably go a step further and make sure the officer on the scene doesnt mis-handle a future situation like that.
