Driver escapes jail sentence after leaving biker paralysed

Court hears how motorist was 'adjusting radio' at time of crash

A CAR DRIVER has been given a 30-week suspended jail sentence for his involvement in a road traffic accident that left a motorcyclist paralysed and needing lifelong care.

Earlier this week, a Caernarfon Crown Court heard how Andrew Jones, 21, of Llanberis, near Caernarfon, Gwynedd, took his eyes off the road while adjusting his car radio and subsequently drifted into the opposing lane, hitting motorcyclist Andrew Peat, 35.

Jones pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on the A4086 near Llanberis in July 2009.

The court was told Mr Peat, of Caernarfon, was now totally reliant on others for his personal care and wellbeing.

Jones was banned for 30 months and must take an extended test to regain his licence. Jones was also told to carry out 300 hours' unpaid work and was also given a 7pm-7am curfew for four months.

Jones said he wished to apologise to Mr Peat and his family for the injuries caused.

In contrast, a BBC producer was jailed for eight months this week for secretly video-taping sessions with several of his girlfriends.

Apparently he's got a thing for defending (accused) child rapists

Not sure how the legal system works in the UK, but I hope they can at least sue the out of this scumbag.

Apples to oranges. Mr. Jones didn't intend to hit the rider. The BBC producer, however, did intend to "hit it".

Sometimes it's easy to forget that accidents happen and people get hurt. Sombody shouldn't automatically go to jail every time.

imagine a woman driving down the road, has a suspended lic. Shouldnt be driving, a rider on a bike makes a legal pass, the woman driver does a country left. What I mean is that she gets into on comming lane to take a left. Not sure even if she turned on her blinker, the bike was already at the back of said car, and biker dies. Now how do you feel about it, I agree accidents happen. But one of our own would still be here if A: she was not on the road "hence" suspended lic or B: would have waited to turn

It doesn't. Their priorities are so out of whack it's like they're from another planet. If you really want to see how f'ed up they are, catch their news about gun laws. They pee down their legs over fake guns, and real guns in the hands of citizens give them full-on seizures.

It's a shame such a once-proud nation has become such a cluster f*ck of bed wetters.

Agree. I don't really see how a jail sentence would remedy the variables that caused the accident. The guy plead guilty and more than likely realizes that he'll be paying for this the rest of his life.

it was an accident and most likely dude didn;t mean to run guy off the road.

there's always civil court after this, thats where the rider gets compensated for his injuries. if dude were in jail, he'd get X% of jail pay........FTL
