Im with most of the above. I could take it to work when its not to cold.

However, I walk waaaaay to much on campus to be carrying helmet, (I can wear the rest around), however, walking that much in boots sux too. - And like one person above said- desk are small- no room for books and gear. Not to mention having to wear all ur books and junk on the ride TO school.

Just not worth it! Its a pain in the .

But i had to layer up like an onion, get to classes, lug around like michelin man, sit in class and sweat all the honeys away from you and/or peel the layers off like a banana. then i'd be like a chick with all the "accessories" to chug around. lets not forget about commuting around campus to classes

it just comes down to is the hassle really really worth it?

oh and OP i've seen u around se side once or twice. im the dude that was helping install those frame sliders, no this isnt kon, the other guy

I don't ride to work often because I am afraid of getting my bike stolen. I rarely let it out of my site. When I DO ride to work, I have the Valets keep an eye on it for me. Even then, I go check on it at least 4 times throughout the night.

lol, i dont mind the commute. i actually 'met' another board member who is on patrol for mcso this way. i was headed home and he recognized my bike and jail uniform (while wearing my gear of course)all the while going around 70 or so on 45.

i really only hate the really humid mornings where my gets all fogged up and i cant see worth a .

i was at one extreme or another. i either had arunning cage, or i had a running bike. but almost never both at the same time (except when married, but the wife got the car)

now im in the same boat again, bike is smashed and just bought a van. allthough my bike commuting is 18 years, compared to 2 of caging. i really feal safer on the bike in the snow, than i do a car in the dry.simply due to sheer motorcycle ride time.

things are looking pretty good to have the bike fixed in a few months, and have the van..so we will see. but i was tired of riding 100 plus miles in 40 degree weather on the bike. THAT commute sucked. the summer was grea, even when hot, but THIS WINTER...(due to new commuting distance, and the cold...i was frozen completely within 6 minutes)

i have a feeling i nwill still be biking more than caging though. i dont trust a vehicle that leans opposite of me, when going into a turn ./

Re: Whats wrong with commuting?

I mostly hate carrying my heavy- textbooks on my back. If I do ride, it's because I have a late morning class where parking is retarded. Mc parking is right by the doors though lol

When it rains? no. I'll be damned having a $250 textbook get wet.

Who said there's something wrong with commuting? I love commuting on two wheels. I do it as often as I possibly can. I always ride to school, without fail, and am happy to do so because it saves me from having to buy a stupid parking sticker for my truck. Beyond that, it keeps miles off my truck. I might've put 3000 miles on my truck this year? And, not to mention, commuting on two wheels makes commuting just suck less, in general. At least that's how I feel about it.

bikes are a toy, not a necessity. its supposed to be fun and enjoybable. i ride to work when the weather is right and im in the right mood, otherwise it completely defeats the purpose of owning one. me personally i love nothing more than smoking my cigarettes and drinking my coffee on the way to and from work. however, when weather permits, i just cant resist.

I live 3/4 of a mile from work and ride it every day that it's not raining or freezing !

I haven't rode to school yet this year though, but probably will when it gets warmer.

Hmm...I guess I am just lucky.
I have a corner office to drop my chit, A lockable bathroom to change in and if I get too warm there is even a shower. That maybe why I have put 24K on a bike every year since I started.
Still, bike riding is for different things to different people. I bought the bike solely to commute. Heck, the one time I went out for fun on the bike (yes once, in 2.5 years) I got a speeding ticket. I have yet to go to the track, I don't patrol and I don't pose. So, ride the way that makes sense for your situation in life and learn to appreciate others' points of view.
Commuting saved me from having to buy a newer car and a ton of gas. I am planning to upgrade the bike next year (yes I plan out everything, well almost).
