An app, implemented well, would be WAYYYY better. even some Web 2.0 or some AJAX would be better for the web based.

Most forums out there, those that don't have sites optimized for mobile, suck on a small screen, and most sites that have mobile sites, such as MH, are so low level that they were created with the intent to run on basic cell phones with mobile web browsers and browsing on a iPhone or any other smart phone does them no justice.
My old phone ran text only web pages which was fine by me when using the mobile MH version. When I got the My Touch I was able to view the regular page no problem, but still prefer the cleaned up simple view of the mobile version. I revert back to non-mobile when I need to, but its pretty rare.

I guess you learn something new everyday, iphone users rejoice:
http://itunes.com/app/tapatalk

Admins, if your interested, the company offers branding and a app personally designed to your site they can publish in the appstore, but the cost, i do not know.

If you wanna check out the app before you buy it ($2.99), you can get their free version which is read only (no posting) and check it out.

Gonna see if I can get MH to work with it.

EDIT: Looks like your forum has to be listed to use it...bummer. Admins would have to look into what that involves and what that costs, if at all.

It's free, MH needs to get all over this!

FAQ from Forum Owner:
Q: How much does it cost?
A: As a forum owner you are free to publish your forum to a Tapatalk Network, however we charge a US$2.99 a copy of Tapatalk iPhone downloaded from the Apple App Store. A free "Read Only" version is also provided for evaulation. Tapatalk Android is currently in beta and you can download the free app by searching "tapatalk" in Android Market.

Q: Which forum system does it currently support?
A: Currently phpBB3 3.0.x and vBulletin 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 are supported. IPB (Invision Power Board) will also be supported in Februray 2010 time-frame

Q: I have multiple forums, Can I publish more than one forum on Tapatalk Network?
A: Yes, you can and additional forums are free also.

Q: Do you do rebranding / private white label for my forum?
A: Yes, contact us for rate and more information.

Q: What about a client for Blackberry?
A: This is currently in development and will be available in February 2010 time-frame. You don't need to install anything else to get it working with Blackberry devices.

Q: How does the Tapatalk Plug-in work with my forum system security?
A: The Plugin is designed to inherit all security policies from your forum system. For example, if a specific sub-forum is a restricted access, the Tapatalk iPhone client would not be able to access it unless the logging member has the authority to access it.

Q: Is this service compatible with all other 3rd party modifications that I have installed on my forum system?
A: While we don't guarantee the Tapatalk Plugin will work with all your existing modification. The 15-days free-trial period allows you to experiment the compatibility. We have tested with many forums with certain degree of modifications and majority of them work well with Tapatalk. Support for modified forums are courtesy basis only and we will not provide refund or any trouble-shooting if it is found that your modification caused the Tapatalk from working as designed.

Q: My organization also developed a forum system, how I can make it compatible with the Tapatalk app so our customers / members would be able to use the same app to access?
A: We can provide different level of support to assist you to develop a similar plugin system that speaks the Tapatalk language. Just drop us an email of what you have in mind.

how about this problem, anyone else have it?

www.motohouston.com
^go to that link and the 'search' and 'quicklinks' drop down menus don't work - you have to go to:
www.motohouston.com/forums
then they both work.

it's only a pain b/c I use the 'today's posts' button a lot and to get to it I have to set the /forum part in the link.

not a biggie and it just started happening on my comp. like a week or so ago. just wondering if it happens to anyone else.

According to their website it's free if your in the generic app.

besides, mh makes money

Of course the users have to pay 2.99 for the app. But that seems like a easily fair price to me. I'd pay it. I'd imagine others would too.

that's what i said.....it's free for us the host....but not the clients

money isn't the issue with us.....it's that u guys the clients have to buy and download an app just to use it....

the free version for clients doesn't let you post and reply either

I would appreciate that much. I am sure other won't likely be too upset with the $2.99 once they use the read only preview app if they like the interface.

Going to iphone.motohouston.com does not apply the style for me. Selecting the style manually from the drop down works.

EDIT: Strike that, iPhone is now missing from the list

Sub domain working and applying style now.

Back button up top has some shading issues, no biggie. I
don't see any links to UserCP. Maybe a menu item entry for UserCP would be nice.

Eveything else looks pretty good man!

I know it's an iPhone heavy market, but where does that leave anyone on, say a My Touch with a Tmobile plan?

Sorry, I dont know much of the lingo or terminology.

Sweet man. I'll look for it to show up. I'm guessing they probably take a few days after you submit it before they are on their list.

I'll post back when it shows up and see how well it works.
