This is for an '02 model, but perhaps it is similar?

http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206712

Is it possible the light burned-out?

On the Hayabusa, when you turn the key to "ON" all lights come on for a second -- that way you can determine if a bulb is bad.

I have an 08 R1, and you just have to hold the buttons on the gaige cluster down in a certan order. There should be detailed instructions in your owners book.
