Gas to Arlington and back would run you about $40-$50.

Dropping $5k on a junked up bike aint worth it.

Or find a reputable bike shop in Dallas that you both agree on, tell homeboy to meet you and go on what they tell you there. Lowers the risk some.

Buying a low price, wreck prone sports bike unseen (as a first bike, to boot) is kind of a bad idea. Then again, could be an awesome deal. Assess the risk, take your time or take you chances. Either way, good luck!

Take the MSF!

and read that article plz. I'm not going into tthe whole argument of what bike to start off with as the subject has been beaten to death.(search function will help you)

but...

I would recommend an SV650 instead of a 600.

What experience do you have?

I've had 600's, 750's, 1000's, 1200's most before I had an SV650 and man the SV is the only bike I really miss day in and day out. Yes, it wasn't the fastest but it was the funnest to ride (street and track). It was also the cheapest by far. I've heard the argument many times "I just want to buy what I want now bc blah blah blah" My response is " It's your first bike not your last bike" Trust me on this point: you WILL buy plenty more bikes. Take your time!

+get a well sorted SV to start with and when your "bored with it turn it into your track bike. Then, pick up a 600,750.... and so on.

Food for thought.

Twins are more fun BTW
