thinking of picking up a cheap dirt bike...

Never ridden dirt before, my dad did trials riding for years but I'd like to start with something less technical. I'm looking for something I can throw in the bed of my truck, drive out to a trail or bayou and tear up. I'd also like something that could be made street legal, for a backup commuter, my truck doesn't have much life left and my street bike's torn apart waiting on random parts just as often as it's on the road. I'm 6'2, 185 lbs, and broke as . My budget is less than $1500, I'd rather not go over a grand. I thought about a honda fiddy for a while, but it's just too frakkin tiny.

with that budget...good luck finding something that is reliable and street legal. You'll likely come away with a nice used 2 stroke or older 4 stroke for that kind of $$$.

Found a local dr350 for $1700 price seems a bit high. What's the best way to figure the street price for older dirt or dual purpose bikes? KBB? NADA?

If your want to play in the dirt for that price range there are alot of good older 2 stroke 125s out there you could up. As far as making it streetable or finding an dual sport, they are out there. Your best bet that route, would be an older 4-stroke dual sport. Those aren't too hard to come across.

I wouldn't reccomend that for what he wants... Plus you need a title to get it street legal.

Do some research... i wouldn't legalize the R models crf450. They have bad history of blowing up on extended high rpm trips. check out supermotojunkie.com for some guys that tard them out.

Scorpio went the correct route with the crf450x (electric start and street legal).
