i hear the 2001's are the best for the 1st gen for some reason, but for extra easy, look at the 03 and up for fuel injection and a different frame

fuel injection will treat you better, in the long run. and the new frames look better IMO

U won't be saying that after an hour of riding!! Seriously SV for the win....my first bike was a 2003 svs and I beat the out it and it took whatever I threw at it to include wrecking it. Either way they are noob friendly and like sone said can be a great track weapon in the right hands.

if the easy learning curve, easier ergos, fun factor, and more affordable price doesnt do it for you, maybe the looks...
they can look pretty badass. they stick out a lot more (imo) than just another r6

i have an 03 sv650s and i absolutely love the thing. it has low end torque that's great for everyday riding and has the pick up power for freeway riding. if you want that leaning over feeling, the "S" version is a bit more sporty.

Have you sat on the late model 250? It looks like it has better ergonomics than the older 250's if looks and ergonomics are what you are after.

More and more people are getting on 250's and are liking it. Just a thought. Although the older 500's look like the older 250's, I hear they pack a better punch.

i have never ridden one, but i have heard they are nice bikes. of the few i have seen, a few were decked out in touring gear. maybe the sv is more sport oriented. i think the fz6 is more sport tourer/commuter than the sv swiss army knife

the fz6 is a good bike, and the characteristics are similar to the sv650s. but there are some differences, inline 4 vs v-twin, more horsepower/less torque, and its got the yamaha symbol on it.

I had a 02 r6 and when I sold it I think it has somewhere around 35k miles on it....never had a single problem.....just changed the oil, brake pads, tires, and chain and sprockets.....had plenty of power and was super quick....its all about personal preference.....if u want a r6 get one and u won't be disappointed!!!
