Question Alright, I will try this again...

What have ya'll found to be the better gas (premium) to run on a sportbike. I have been faithful to exxon for so long I have forgotten why. I am hearing whispers that they have recently been adding ethanol to there gas but dont know if it is a good thing or not. I have (temporarily) switched to Shell (V-power) to see if I see a difference.

Acutally a good question. I am looking for slight differences like milage, what the plugs look like, and overall engine performance. My question is in regards to this "additive" that Exxon is using.

You might be right. Funny how the only thing I ever look for at the pump is "premium" and hope I have enough change left over for Babes.

Correctamundo, most gas stations have ethanol in the gas.

I do premium, because the book/sticker tells you to do so.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter. They all add ethanol.

even the shell in anderson now has ethenol gas. that county was one of the last in texas to be forced to do so. it used to be based on bordering counties as to whether or not it had ethanol. now they all have ethenol. as for brand preferense, there is a tier scale.

Any gas station that is in an emissions county, such as Harris must have a ethanol blend between 9.8 %- 10.2% persuant to DOT/TCEQ regs in their gasoline.

Any bordering county as well. When I ride dirtbikes in the SHNF, I fill up in New Waverly. They did not have the 10% sticker on the pump last time I checked.

seeing how ethanol is cheaper I would think most if not all stations use some sort of blend..........

Im faithful to Shell gas. I have however been doing milage comparisons on different gas. I have been doing so in my company truck. I have been checking every tank and this has been going for about a year.I drive the same route daily and only to work and back. I have been getting lower milage on Shell gas since the new nitrogen campaign. Texaco has been best and Murphys has been worst.

chevron for me. if no chevron, i push the bike.

we did a project in highschool where we drove around and filled a mason jar with "premium fuel" from each gas station. we tested each sample for contaminants, color, seperation, and some other scientific mumbo jumbo. (and we used several samples from different stations per brand ( just in case we got a dirty pump)). sams/walmart/heb/kroger actually separated water/black specs within 24hrs and was super dehydrated yellow, shell/valero/exxon separated a small amount of water and was slightly dehydrated yellow, mom and pop (u dont even want to know), texaco/chevron was a slight orange/light yellow NO water separation, NO , and did not change color after 24hrs. now this test was done in 07' so maybe things have changed, but i have religiously been running chevron and have never lost a fuel pump, never had a dirty injector, never had a gummed carb, and if u go to:
http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=121018
you can see a clean set of plugs after 10k miles of not-so-nice riding on chevron gas

In the bike I'll only run Chevron or Shell. The car usually gets Shell because it's the most convenient for me being right next to the house, but I'll fill it up whenever and wherever I need it.

I usually add a cup (8 oz.) of diesel with every fill up just to keep the cylinders properly lubricated
