i would say fix it cut out the fairings to streetfighter the bike not only will you save yourself 6 to 8 hundred but you will have a different look as well. as far as parts you can always find stuff local and if you can use a wrench you will save big bro.
every bike i have owned was a wrecked bike and it has saved lots of $$$$

For the guys that are saying $1K, not in nice street condition. Maybe a track , but not nice street.

If you repair:
The OEM fairings will run ~$1100, subframe/tailbox - $200, headlights - $200, rearsets - $75. Then you still have RA tubes, sty, and cluster, not to mention all of the other BS items. This will wind up costing $2K - $2.5K if you do the work yourself. Now you have an additional $2 - $2.5K tied up in a bike that will draw ~$4500.

If you part out:
2004 frame with clean title (though it does have minor damage, though highly unlikely it is bent) - $1300, complete engine (kit car assy, includes wire harness, airbox, and all sensors) - $1000, fork kit (includes forks, triples, L&R controls, etc) - $400, wheels (includes rotors and tires) - $375, and then all of the other stuff that takes forever to part which will probably drag another $200 - $400. So at the end of the day, you wind up with ~$3200 recovered on a note of $4000.

If I were in your shoes, I would repair, but that is just me.
ya thats what i was thinking. just not sure if the forks or bars are bent!.. hoping not. thinking im going for repairs..definately going to do it right. where do you get your parts from for your rebuilds?

Ha that's basically what i told him to do so they would pay that off. Why I made sure he had full coverage! But that could end badly ...

I'm curious. How did the bike make it's way back to you?

You sold it for payments, douchebag wrecks it... and then he just walked away?
Cops come calling you that your bike was in a ditch somewhere?
How much did he pay you before it was wrecked?
I'm wondering how well you knew this guy to let him make payments on such a nice bike...

Anyway, sucks to hear, but I hope you get it back how you like it and on the road.

his friend he worked with came by and dropped it off. i was working and my gf was the only one home so he just wheeled it on into the garage.
and i see it when i get home. said he was going to cover it etc. yet never did.
had given me probably a grand before i got it back.
and personally i didnt know the kid very well. my gf has known him practically her entire life. i met him. seemed straight. i rode with him a couple times to make sure he knew wtf he was doing. lesson learned i assume.
he had a good job for a long time and apparently lost it. i had many people offer to do payments and was never going to do that but i decided to take a chance with him.
but thanks. i hope to have it back to the way it was before too long...

he would have to own something to sue.
thought about small claims but have been told that even with a court order you are not required to pay as in there is noone physically making you pay with consequences if not. so idk? maybe that info is incorrect?

I know it looks bad, but don't be discouraged. I just rebuilt my 08 R1. I ended up dumping about $2,500. ebay is your best friend.

Wheels, headlights, fairing stay bracket, tail light, both sides case covers, gaige cluster, sub frame, tank. Glued all the fairings back togeather, and peeled off the decals. looks like a rat bike, but rides streight. I'm probabily forgeting something.

Wes600rr, When a friend of my son's looped his RC we had the same dilemma. We decided to repair it. We were able to source most of the items from a RC specific website. Roughly $2500 in parts for the guy who looped it and it was in worse shape than yours.

good to know! thanks. hoping i can find what i need fairly cheap and stay in the 2k-2.5k area. i figure now i am just going to sue the kid for damages so that i can still keep it. seems like the best outcome for the situation.
