Long distance trip.... Would you do it??

Alright guys,
Im planning to head to San Marcus from where i live in Friendswood/Clear lake leaving friday night and coming back sunday night. Its about a 2-1/2 to 3 hour ride straight through. We would be leaving at midnight or so friday night so the traffic would be minimal and it wont be so hot outside. Anyways, plans are to crash out the friday when we get there, wake up saturday and go float the river for the day and drink a little and then no plans for sunday. I was thinking since i have been told its nice riding up there, that maybe we could not party as hard on the saturday night and wake up at a decent time sunday to hit some twisties. Is it good riding up there in the Austin/San Marcus area like ive been told? As for the riders, it looks like its just going to be 3 of us on bikes... My buddy Russ on his 06 ZX6RR, Josh on his 06 CBR600RR and me on my 06 ZX6R. There will be some other people going but they will be in cars so we will be the only 3 on bikes unless someone else we know decides to step up at the last minute. We are also thinking about whether we should ride up there or just take my truck and haul the bikes in the bed or on the trailer. Just wanted to get some info from yall who have maybe made the ride before as to how bad it would be? Would you suggest trailering the bikes or riding them? Thanks for the help guys and for anyone else that may be interested in floating the river saturday or riding on the sunday and your in the area, your more than welcome to roll with us!

cliff notes?

im guessing you want to ride to San MARCOS (in between Austin and San Antonio). if this is tru dont do it. you'll get tired just doind stuff there like in the lake or on the river. if anything just trailer it up there, but i never wanted to go riding up there with all the traffic and cars around that area.

hey,

i just did the same ride / weekend you're talking three weeks ago. it was a blast. the ride over on I10 is pretty boring and took a little over 2 hrs...but isn't too bad. if you are willing to put the effort into it, and not scared of riding a lot...the roads out west of sanmarcos/newbraufels are AWESOME, especially compared to anything around houston. I ended up riding 740 miles that weekend, which included about a 400 mile loop out west in the hill country. i have a map for a kick route with turn by turn directions and what not...let me know and i could pm them to you.

i am planning on organizing a ride folllowing basically the same plan as you said later this summer. if people would be interested pm me, and i'll make sure i'll let you know when it happends.

bottom line is, if you aren't afraid of riding a lot of miles...go for it, it is a blast.

-Max

if your looking for some nice " back " roads, take I-10 to luling ( the big love's gas station ) exit there, keep right, when you get to the " buds " gas station, take a right, then at the next light, take a left. cant remember the names of the roads, but it will take you through luling, stairtown, prairie lea, and som other small towns. nice area, and once you clear the towns, nice empty highways. i didnt see any cops out there 2 weeks ago when i went up that way.

The roads outside of the San Marcos/ New Braunfels area are great! I lived in New Braunfels for a year and it was fo shizzle! Post up a ride time in the events/ rides section. Should be a blast.

If I were you, I would look for some back roads to get there - especially through the hill country.

haha, i'm about to take my bike back to austin. That's going to be fun. It's going to be about a two hour to two and a half hour drive if i'm not speeding too badly (~70-80 mph).
