i bought a bike with an out of state salvage title(only cosmetic damage), how do i go about getting the title transfered transferred?
do i need to get insurance on it first then go get the title transferred and get it registered at the same time? or do i need inspection before i do that?

it's the same process. insurance, state inspected; make sure to tell him to fill out the out of state form. it's $1.00. then dmv and transfer.

edit. it doesn't matter if it's salvage or clean title. all out of state vehicle will need to be state inspected and that form that the inspector have.

Insurance
Inspection -get them to do a green sheet vin inspection along with regular inspection.

fill out a 130 U (title application)
& a VTR 61 (salvage rebuild)

Take all that to the tax office.

i dunno about the salvage part, but with just the out of state, you have to get insurance, then inspection, and make sure you get the inspection sheet and take that and signed title to dmv for transfer.

if the title is "salvaged" to get the title in "rebuilt" status ("blue"), you must bring:
  • Rebuilt Affidavit - Form VTR-61 LINK
  • receipts that show your repairs (listed on VTR-61)
  • Application for Texas Certificate of Title - Form 130-U LINK
  • $65 rebuilt app fee (I may be incorrect about the dollar amount)
  • insurance for the bike/vehicle
  • Proof of ownership (the Title is what I used)
  • state inspection (need the Certificate of State Inspection form)
all i needed for my Louisiana salvaged bike to become a Texas Rebuilt

I took in all my Paypal and CC receipts. They looked and gave them back, but you need to save everything "just in case"
