From talking with the dealer up in Magnolia they seem to do pretty well. One or two cases of motor problems from people sitting them on redline from Houston to Austin.

They are heavier than the Ninja, but have a little more bottom end grunt.. little less top end charge.

Brakes suck and should be the first upgrade, the pads they use are made of wood or something. I would plan on EBC pads and braided lines at the minimum.

They respond well to basic mods like jetting, can and de-snorkleing the filter.

Very similar to the wifes 650 which has given her good service for the past 3 years. When she had her 250 Ninja we would ride with a friend on her Hyo 250 and they were pretty close. The Hyo is a little wider in the seat, and a more sporting position, you sit more upright on the Ninja.

Something else to check depending on how old/miles it has on it.. the rear brakes tend to be misadjusted and drag, wearing out the pads and rotor prematurely... just an FYI.

And if I recall the front can be upgraded to dual discs pretty easy; might have made the change in the later years but I haven't really paid attention. There is a Hyo forum also... been awhile since I checked but it's still active...

The 09 Im looking at has dual brakes front. I dont use my rear brake so covered there as well.

Plus, looking online I've found plenty of low mileage engines etc.

Oh, and bike has less then 2k on the od

for 2k w me picking it up, I think it sounds like a steal and great for around the Woodhood putting, noob forest rides and track. Since I dont go over 80 on the highways I think it would be a good suit for me while the 900rr gets a rebuilt engine.

They have a little better suspension bits and tires compared to the Ninja as well...

I don't know how up put up a direct link to the video. Sorry.
I have an 07 650 avitar. Good bike over all. i'll be adding a 650 gt in the future. If you look closely at the 250 it's basically an updated gs 500e frame. Only thing I heard about the 250 is that the front end is a bit light traveling on the highway. I think it was on a non fairing bike though... one thing that is neat about the bikes is that they have ajdustable foot pegs.
In 05 the 650 had a string of bad heads and would cause motor failure. redesign and the newer ones are better. plus if new you get a two year warranty.

they look like 'mini gixxers'. one of the guys we used to ride with on the west side had one. he would ride that thing hard. was quick enough and did fine in the twisties. durable too, it would fall over in his garage quite a bit lol

from what I understand, hyo. manufactured the motors for gs 500 and SV 650. that basically said screw that and copied the motor and produced their own version of the motor. they have been around for 30 years in Korea.
