Clint Shobert Gives Up Racing. Why? Well...

http://superbikeplanet.com/2010/Jan/100129b17.htm

I found this news to be disturbing, not only because it's about one of our own, but because it paints the sad picture of racing in today's politically charged AMA/DMG climate. There is no doubt that the slack economy factors in here, too, but let's be honest -- when there's no place to race, no one races. Or will want to. Time was when club racing was a springboard to the big time. Not so much anymore...

I talked to Clint and Bubba many times last season and sort of got this vibe from them, so am I not surprised to read this. They wanted to move up and on, but today it just doesn't seem like there's much of a place to go.

Here's a a picture I took of Clint Shobert last September at Oak Hill:

DMG - maybe it really stands for Dumbass Management Group

Shobert's going back to medical school. He'll probably graduate right about the time that the federal government will have ruined that as a career choice too.

Hey Armando, you've been hanging around MH too long when body position freaks you out.

More from the same day, corner and race...

I guess he doesn't. Somebody should tell him that it's better than dragging knee

As a father of a boy that Charles Brothers said should go pro. I think if he has the mental horsepower to make it into med school he should be going to school. There are cases like Ben Spies around where the kid is very bright and very fast and made it to the top or close enough. I however also worry about the kids that could have been docs or engineers but didn't because they put racing first and never made it past fast club racer.

the other side of that coin is as lorin70 said medicine is not a good career path right now we discouraged our kids from taking that path.

they're all good careers,if thats what makes you happy.
if you become a doc just for the money, you will prolly live a wealthy unhappy life .just my $.02.
better riders can get away with bit more of unpopular BP and even worse tires on bad asphalt...........just part of reality.
the future holds a lack of USA riders on the top tiers of racing thats for sure.......

Werd. Some fast 's dont have the "correct" ,as some would say, bp. It aint always about that little man.

I heard in the past that the AMA is going down hill, this is just more proof

I was reading where the DMG Superbike payout for 2010 is $ 6.5 K per race (down from $70 K's a few years ago) and is only paying 1st through 3rd.

I think one of these guys could win more in contengency on a weekend at TWS (Texas World Speedway) then they would all year in a series like that.....I guess these fast guys could start club racing again but they probably don;t have anyting left to proove.

It does seem wierd that DMG would be so out of sync with the manufactures as to kill off the liter bike class in America. Specially at a time when other countries have lined up their rules with WSBK and the grids at that level are already reflecting that.

What a joke the AMA has become. It is a shame as there are pretty good riders out there.
