Wasn't there a study that showed out of all the Motorcycle fatalaties, 55% were not wearig a helmet. That means 45% were wearing a helmet.

85% of statistics are correct only 35% of the time.

I totally disagree! Your numbers are just conjecture to muddle the public understanding. My data shows conclusively that a full 90% of statistics are incorrect 45% of the time.

Wear a d@mn helmet. If you want an object lesson offer your head and I will slam it into the concrete you just get to pick helmet or no helmet.

On a serious note, maybe I missed it but where are they getting their numbers from? I mean a 32% increase could be a couple to 10000 riders.

It is unlikely that Texas will repeal the helmet law requiring everyone to wear them, especially since they just repealed this past September the need for the stupid stickers saying that you had enough insurance coverage to not wear a helmet.

As for not wearing a helmet, well I wear mine and drive down FM1960 and Fairbanks North Houston, if I crash I want the head protection.

First of all, I don't believe any of those "statistics" to begin with.

Secondly, we don't need the government telling us to wear a helmet (or wear a seatbelt for that matter). Let natural selection do its thing...

Ok, exactly how are riders not wearing helmets, having an adverse effect on highway safety?

Has there been an increase in crashes due to riders not wearing helmets?
Did we have an increase in bug strikes or flying debris, causing more helmetless riders to crash?

I have yet to understand why people don't wear helmets. Is it because they it doesn't look cool because you look like an alien when you put one on. Well at least when you take it off you no longer look like an alien but if you hit your head hard enough you will look like one permanently (think Gary Busey). Plus you can ride better when you aren't distracted by the wind and the bugs hitting your face. Oh and it keeps your brain from leaking out of your ears in the event of a crash. I see people all the time without a helmet, people riding wheelies even. Stupid. Let's put this into perspective. I was once sledding down a hill at no more than 10-15 miles an hour and went head first into another sled that stopped in front of me. BAM...****ing lights out for three days. I fractured my skull and had blood coming out of my ears. I couldn't open my eyes for three days because they were swollen shut, my face was black and blue and I was not right for months. 10-15 mph that was it. If someone turns left in front of you and you are only going 20-25 mph, and you strike the side of the car with your no helmet head I can guarantee you WILL be ****ed up for a long time and maybe even eternally.

Ahhh, the old helmet debate.

I think they should be required unless the rider has a 1,000,000 insurance policy. That way the public won't have to pick up the tab when you're laid up in a coma for 6 months.

the statement that helmets don't save lives at all in an accident, is even more preposterous! Most fatalities are alcohol related anyway. (and the manipulation of 2009 stats by the 'rights' guy is just as silly as anyone else who manipulates data.

But I'm 100% certain, beyond any shadow of a doubt that all professional m/c racers would be dead by now if they did not wear helmets, considering that they all wreck at some point (or many).
