Oil leak

I have a 2002 Kawasaki 1500 vulcan Fi, appears to be leaking oil around the valve cover and also notice engine knock/ping when accelerating from 65/70 to 80. Anyone have any ideas on the possible causes? Any help would be great.

have the valves ever been checked or adjusted per the maintenance schedule? i would have the clearances checked, and maybe replace the valve cover gasket while you are at it. that might do the trick, or at least you might be able to get more info once its opened up.

It has hydraulic lifters for the valves . They are not adjustable as far as I know.
