Year of a Racer Project ...

Well during the off season I decided that I would start the new year and track season with a little personal project. This year I plan on documenting all the $ spent on trackdays and races , including gas, bike repairs, all the fees etc etc. I also plan on trying to document everything with pictures and hopefully a vid or 2 from the races or trackdays just to have to add to the stories.

I wanted to do this to personally see how much money this sport will cost this year with a complete break down so I can look back and say i spent $1500 on gas this year , $1000 on repairs and maintenance etc etc. I also thought it would be good to get the perspective of a mild racer like myself and a dedicated racer brant. So during the year and at the end of the year other up and coming riders can look at what it took to ride for the year and where the money is going.

I talked to brant(cdill) and he said he is also down for doing this with me, but I would like to get one possibly 2 other people that are interested in doing this also. I would like to add on a mini racer and possibly someone who will race a few races this year but not commit to a full on season, to get multiple perspectives.

Let me know if you are interested in this, I am still working on creating an excel spreadsheet to track the finances through the year and a format for updating the information in a cut and clean format for the boards. I think this will be an interesting reflection through the year

rumor has it brant is almost at $1000 before the season starts on investments and I am upwards of $700 haha

just for n grins....care to compare the cost of a dirt racer vs. a SS racer?

I'm right around $300 for this year already between sign up fees, new boots, and maintenance....

I bet I finish the year around 2k with all the gas and everything.

Danny, if you factor in your medical bills, I bet the SS guys come out ahead at the end of the season

man, that's a crazy project

just document what you learned and how much fun you had.
and document how to transfer everything to real life.
the money stuff will drive you nuts.
that's a crazy project.

You could just use and AmEx card and they provide an end of year analysis of your spending habits.

For me, Every year that I do not sprint race allows me to purchase a new car.
I have just under a month to decide whether or not to get a Dodge Viper.

Funny thing is I modified a spreadsheet I had to keep track of auto expenses to keep track of the expenses for this year/season. I’m already deep in the hole as I just bought a bike. Signed up for the Barber track day, and will (depending on the weather) take CMRA class. I’m planning on doing a couple races, but mostly track days.

trackdays are mondo fun,but theres always that race itch i get on that particular spot of my back......
i have a bad feeling there is going to be no trackdays for me after endurancing and a little sprinting this season after seeing the cost.

I'd do it Greg but why would I want to give extra ammo to my wife for the divorce?

ok brant and tony ill send u the xls spreadsheet i just completed, so let me know what you think. I left some examples in there for reference

still looking for either a mini racer or a possible endurance racer so we can get the comparison of a sprint racer vs an endurance racer

danny if u want it for dirt just let me know

I guess after events each person can post their break down of cost for that event, and then at the end of the month everyone can post their monthly breakdown
