GSXR Sitting For 2+ Years

Well my friend just one day decided he wasn't going to ride his 07 GSXR600 anymore. Left his bike outside with a cover on it and thats where its sat for atleast 2 years now. He didnt drain anything, hasnt moved it, or even tried to crank it. Now he wants to start riding it again.

I know its not possible to know exactly what needs to be done to get it back up and going but I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas.

I did a search but I didn't really find what I was looking for. The plan is definately to take it to Motorcycles Unlimited. Just wanted to know what all would be involved.

Probably will have some damage done to the bike. Will need to get it inspected by a mechanic.

....agreed....all but the carbs cleaned...probably gonna be hard to find on that bike

I wouldn't even try to start it 'till you flush the fuel.

make sure those injectors are clean.

new brake fluid...and coolant like other has mentioned. I'd flush the cooling system for sure.

If it sat out side, the tires probably aren't well.

Get it to a good reputable shop for a once over, like CDR or Motorcycles Unlimited.

Drain the fuel, flush the tank and change the oil. The plugs can be burned off; dont fix it if it isnt broken.

pump the brakes and drag them going down the road to clean off the rust on the rotors. Brake fluid does better sitting not heat-cycled.

Coolant will separate over time but not alot.

Tires will cause a vibration but 5 miles will clean that up.

I would have to agree, I offered to keep it in my garage as did some of my other friends but this guy is definately stubborn. Thanks for all the feedback.

Tell him not to waste his money, it'll just happen again when the "I want a bike, that would be cool " wears off.
