500 makes a great starter bike and has enough power to keep you happy as long as you're not racing it.

Welcome to the board.

A ninja 500 should do you good. Or a 250, cheap to buy and mantain and you have enough money left to buy quality gear.

Welcome

Buy used, insurance is a of a lot cheaper.

As for first bike, you have to try them on first. Go to a dealership with someone who knows what they're talking about and you trust to give good advice. Try on a bunch of bikes and really get on them (don't just throw a leg over with the stand down). Get a feel where the controls are, seating position, etc... and make sure it's comfortable for you. If not, ask if they can be adjusted to fit.

10R or R1. Have some .

J/K....Welcome to MH.

A used 500-650 would do you very well. SV's seem to make a really good first bike. Cheap. Ridable and easy to fix.

GEAR GEAR GEAR GEAR

Buy the GEAR before you buy a bike.

Welcome! Be sure to get your MSF and all of your gear. Then you can think about what you're gonna ride.
