behind the gun

in the center of the one photo there is a huge set of fans, no doubt cooling whatever reaction/distillation process that is taking place in the two concrete domed buildings. The blue things that look like booms appear to be used for offloading liquids, prolly petroleum.

You seem to be fascinated by 8 inchers...

If you have some time later I can show you where another is.

it is tucked away behind the chemical plants in Quintana, Texas (just west of Freeport)

This web-site says there were "anti-aircraft" wepons placed there in 1941 to protect the Dow Chemical plants making Magnesium for the war.

I find this hard to believe that a gun built in 1945 was put there in 1941, or that an 8" Howitzer would be effective on aircraft

so this site is full of poo http://www.texasexplorer.com/quintana.htm

ride was only about 150miles round trip from south Houston.

Freeport LNG site. Dngrmouse built those. the fans are heaters, liquid nat. gas gets pumped into the tanks and brought down to -260 degrees and into a gell. when needed it will be pulled out and heated in the reformers behind the tanks. it will go from gell to liquid then to vapor. it will be pumped across the channel there to dow and they were supposed to add a pipeline to come up to stinky-dena. inside those domes - you could easily fit a large base ball stadium. the floor is 8' thick and the walls are 3' thick concrete with 3 layers of 3/4" steel plate and 1' thick insulation.

the blue thing in the 2nd pic are retractable arms/ pumps they attatch to a ship 3 football fields in legnth and pump out the liquid nat gas, then sent to the tanks to be gelled. they had to dredge the dock area and widen the the channel so that the ship could make the turn into the LNG docks - good fishin there
