Cheap pos SV parts

I got stranded 70 miles outside of town Saturday, turns out the voltage regulator on my SV650 decided to self-destruct and melt itself to the side of the frame. The thing that me off the most was this turns out to be a common problem on the 1st gens because Suzuki used an unreliable cheap pos part to save a few dollars.

I just ordered a beefy 50 amp mosfet regulator so this won't happen again, but honestly if I'm going to be replacing parts on a bike that aren't consumables (like fluids, brake pads, tires) I want it to improve performance, not just bring it up to the basic level of reliability I expect from any relatively modern Japanese bike.

Not much more you can do to that bike in terms of performance wo sacrificing reliability ie building the engine.

Sucks to hear especially after we had just talked about it.
