What causes headshake? I've only experienced maybe a couple of times, and no were near as violent as he described.

headshake is the suck. its when the front wheel wobbles. can be bad enough to become a tankslapper, which sucks worse. tankslapper if you dont know is when the handlebars go left to right back and forth violently and its pretty dangerous

do a wheelie and your bars to one side when you put your wheel down, and you will figure out real quick what headshake is. My 636 was real bad about it.

some say let off throttle when headshake hits.
i've heard racers accelerate thru it.
that makes more sense, as it'll lighten the front (at the possible risk of another headshake?)

Ohhhhh.... No wonder noobs get this alot I only get mild headshake coming out of a turn. I guess the front wheel gets light while Im putting input on the clip on.

For those of you not sure about what it is go search on youtube for some decent videos of it. I'm sure some of the more experienced riders can comment more on this but it is sometimes caused by these reasons below plus more I am not personally aware of.

-turned front wheel coming down from a wheelie
-hanging onto the clip ons "handle bars" instead of just using them to steer
-suspension setup
-suspension geometry
-riding position/style

holy old post. Yah, he was lucky to be alive. I have a friend that is starting on an old cbr 600. He is huge so starting on a 2fiddy might not be the best idea. My advice: start slow + throttle control.

So the main issue is too much weight on the clips ons??? Locked elbows?? Not being light on the clip ons??
