Actually they have a right as a nation to obtain nuclear power. Its a right that should be afforded to them. We were all about it before the Iranian Revolution.

People love him or hate him. As a country we love his oil. Look at the data.
U.S. oil imports.
1) Canada
2) Mexico
3) Venezuela
4) Saudi Arabia

Strange how a guy who is democratically elected in a supervised election and uses oil profits to help the less fortunate in the country is dubbed a "dictator". As far as whether he should worry...yeah, he should. Not invasion, more likely CIA assassination...same as they did to Omar Torrijos of Panama. Venezuela is a major oil exporter so if you burn gasoline this country is important to you.

Anyways, Americans have no room to call any country's leader "stupid". Look who's in the White House for f@ck's sake.

We don't run around the country trying to make people hate Venezuelans. Well at least most of us don't.

The whole issue is control. The rich Venezuelans want control of oil profits back rather than having a guy elected by the poor folks redistributing the wealth. USA historically wants to control Central and South America (economically), and Chavez is not one to be controlled. Having a rich elite with 95% of the wealth keeps countries weak and dependant, and thus easier to control. Example = Mexico.

Anyways I'm not a fan of Chavez but I think it's interesting that he's demonized just for not being a puppet of the United States. The fact that he was elected in a fully sanctioned and legal democratic process yet is referred to as a dictator by the US masses shows the power of propaganda.

Look closer at the way he controls the country.

He's acting like a dictator from what I've been reading/hearing, and when you across the board start taking over assets because you decided you don't like the contracts that were signed.............your acting like communist Russia.
The mess in Russia over Yukos? has COST Russia much more than it made them, just as an example. It certainly appears to be fueled by greed.......but who's?

Have you ever actually set foot in Venezuela? The Venezuela socialist model is far FAR removed from Russian or Cuban communism. Bolivarian socialism is more of a compromise between full on capitalism and communism, helping the poor have more power in government while retaining privitazation. The big exception is the oil contracts situation, where Chavez is trying to funnel more oil wealth into his public works projects.

Is that pure humanitarianism? No, but few things in politics are. He knows where his power base is and that's in the dirt poor majority (his electorate) so he needs to show he's doing positive things for them. Isn't that democracy? Anyone who has seen the slums in Caracas...if he's sincerely trying to fix that problem, well then he's doing his country a service.

Let me understand that in your idealism is to keep people simple and not thinking for themselves? Provide whatever they want at the expennse of others because they would rather work a system than to provide for themselves? Let me think for you because your not smart enough to think for yourself attitude? They're above other socialist, fascist, communist agendas? Uh, riiight. Sounds like what liberals in this country want. People who can't think for themselves as long as they keep them in office. bye bye
