I have owned both the 08 1000RR and now this 08 10R. I have only been on (1) 200 mile ride. I'll say that I SMOKED an 08 1000RR from a roll and my bike is bone stock except for an M4 slip on.

Also, the 1000RR's burn oil, at least most I have seen. They also start this fkn whine that is obnoxious, after a few thousand miles. I think teh the front is not designed aero dynamically enough and gravel being thrown from other bikes literally puts holes in the upper, windscreen and radiators. Every single time I have been behind someone I have busted my radiator (twice), upper (twice) and windscreen (once). Say what you want about backing off, but I rode my 06 1000RR way harder and closer to people and only suffered one hole in the radiator, in 16k miles. Also, the 08 1000RR's are like $6500 OTD, on EBAY, in TN. Buy one here and it aint worth the second you roll it off the lot.

Granted, I have only done one ride on the 10R but IMO it handled just as good as the CBR.

And it's easier to whoolie.

Well of course your ZX10R smoked the 1000RR in a high speed run. The 1000RR comes detuned on the high end and with less HP from the factory than the ZX10R but it still has enough other positive attributes to make up for that and then some.

And i believe only the early 08's had the oil burning issue. I was told they fixed it at the end of 08 and the 09's were not affected. And whats with the prices on the 1000RR's anyway?? Like half off the price almost on the left over 08's! But... the $6500 you see on ebay is not OTD. You still have to pay TTL when you register the bike in your state so your really paying closer to $7500 for it OTD which is still cheap for a brand new 08.

Did your 1000RR burn oil?

And im assuming you were referring to the ZX10R not being aerodynamic enough to avoid rocks and stuff?

Clutch cant be that expensive to replace and is fairly easy to install if you know what your doing. Not a major issue. Ill upgrade it if it gives me any trouble...

Mine burned a bit of oil. Not as bad as some. MY buddy just bought one, less than 3 months ago, smokes like a chimney. They are replacing the engine with an 09.

The aerodynamic comment, I am talking about the CBR. The front is too flat IMO. and the Radiator is too exposed. I wont post the pics, I made a thread called Hill Country Damage. Pics are there. And since then, it happened again locally.

I also failed to mention that my clutch began slipping at 8k miles. Granted, the bike was rode hard, but I rode my 06 hard for 17k miles and did probably 40 races and 21 sprints on my 07 750 for 9k miles...no issues until those points.

I can't find the dealer on EBAY that has the CBR's. Maybe that is over, but it was 6800ish OTD. Granted, there would be tax when you registered it in Texas, but still.

Anyway, I'm a Honda guy at heart. But other than the handling, they failed with the 08 1000RR, mechanically, IMO. If you buy one, make sure you have a warranty.

Go ZX10. It's a little heavier than the 6 but performs well. If it were a first time sportbike rider, I would have said the 6, but since he has experience, go with the 10.

I bought my 09 last week. Hoping it will be problem free being the 09 and not the oil burning 08. Has just 3200 miles on it.

And ok, i just got mixed up between which bike you were talking about but i can see that. The CBR does have a rather flat front end. Hated it at first but it grew on me after awhile. I can always buy a rad guard for it if its a problem. Cheap fix.

And if mine turns out to be a smoker/oil burner, what would it cost to pull the motor down and put a nice set of pistons in it(if desired) and new rings to fix the problem? I cant imagine it would be much if you can do the labor yourself or have someone that can do it cheap.

I wouldnt say they failed mechanically on these bikes. Yes, it sucks that some of them burn oil (they obviously shouldnt) but other than that issue, they handle great and still perform great. Bike of the year 2 years and running.

My buddy had an 07 zx6r. Bottom end was still weak after the PCIII. My 06 636 would rape it from a stop. But... if your really riding the bike, your gonna be in the mid-range or higher so the low doesnt matter too much...
