Question regarding vehicle registration

I'm in the process of purchasing a motorcycle from an individual.

The owner is the second owner. He has a title from the first owner. The first owner signed but, as far as I can tell, did not date the title. The first owner also did not put the odometer reading on the title.

The seller, second owner, never signed the title.

The registration on the motorcycle, based on the license plate and title, was back in July of 2007. The inspection of the motorcycle is up to date.

Would I incur any penalties if I try to register the title?

Thanks !!

Just date it and write the mileage. It isn't legal but....you'll be fine. Make sure you bring a valid copy of your insurance

^^This...

And you shouldn't get any penalties since you are buying the vehicle and you are not in control of what happened in the past while you were not in possesion of it...

Hey, make sure you still get a bill of sale from this guy, and you can even get an affidavit that he can sign that says that he bought it but never put it in his name...Just another safe measure to keep you legal...And try to get all the paperwork he has from the original sale...

its all good, as long as its not dated, u will not get hit w/ the penalty, as they will not know the 'true' day of sale.

however, the bill of sale is going to have to be signed by the owner listed on the title. if u have both docs signed but not dated you are good to go. just date and register w/i 20 days.

on paper, it will be as if u bought directly from the first owner.

Ur missing a transfer if title pAper work as well. U need to call in the Vin to make sure there are no liens b4 u give up ur money

bill of sale is good to have but not needed. Do not tell them that u bought it from a guy who is not on the title. U have to pay taxes on the value of the bike not how much u paid for it too

also do not wait to ge transfered. If you do do not tell them when they ask. If it is out 30 days or more there is a penalty for that. When i did mine there was a guy next to me that got hit for it. They asked him how long he had the bike and he told them like 2 months. They tacked on a hefty fine for that. So when she asked me i said i just bought it 3 days ago
