Shoei RF-1100

I put about 150 miles on my new RF-1100 today and was pretty happy with it overall.

Pros
  • Its not that heavy
  • It fits very snug - ample cheek padding, chin and nose guards included additionally.
  • The 'seal-switch' for the windshield or whatever its called actually really helps with noise
  • Visibility is average, the vertical seems to be a little bit more crunched that my other lids, but isnt a big deal.
  • Front face air vent is very effective
  • I'm really happy with the noise reduction overall, I rode with a really loud f.ag in front of me most of the time and could barely hear him.

Cons
  • Quick De-fog switch for windshield isnt effective, doesnt seem to open enough. Rubber nose cover thing helps alot, still has fog issues though.
  • Fogging overall is a fair problem, the noise seal is excellent but fog steps in due to lack of air flow when everything is well sealed.
  • No extra windshields are available yet (30 - 60 day wait) so Clear and Smoke are the only available at this time (it came out in October, really?).
  • Some graphic styles not yet available.
  • I'm not sure it would make a good summer lid yet, i was in traffic and 70 degrees and getting pretty warm inside, however this seems to be an acceptable side effect of decreasing noise and windsealing and the front vent works very well cooling but nonetheless not moving in traffic did indeed make it a little to cozy inside.
  • The vents make a really annoying whistle sound, closed or open at various angles, this isnt perpetual, just move a little and the wind wont hit the vent covers just right and no more whistling.

I picked up mine for $280 and was pretty bummed that none of the other visors were available, but clear will do for now i suppose. Overall the noise reduction is fantastic, feels great at high speeds, has a great front vent and despite little minor knick nacks is a really nice helmet.

A friend hooked me up on the cheap, the lowest i saw online shopping around was $323, Patrick could probably match it locally.
