Almost happened to me but I was able to slow down some and the birds werent idiots.

I believe it is here or in another forums I post where a similar thing happened on a car. 2 of them feasting on some roadkill, one flies off and the other one flies off TOWARD the car

EDIT:
I think it was my Toyota forum and a fellow corolla owner that did this. I think he upgraded his front bumper and got a new hood after that.

Guilty of what? The only thing I can remotely think of being guilty about is breaking speed limit, and at that, I wasn't going insanely fast, I was going as fast as anyone on a normal forest ride would be going. By you saying I'm "riding like an idiot," you're pretty much saying everyone else who's ever hit an animal or anyone who's ever run a spirited forest ride with a group on here rides like an idiot also.

dont worry about racerX, old Ed's just being like your crotchety worried momma. Just be glad that vulture didnt make you go down, that would have really you off. My buddy hit a smaller bird with his front cowl and it exploded, there was blood and feathers COVERING his whole front end. t happens , just scan way ahead and adjust accordingly.

Racer X don't take too kindly to people that don't take too kindly to the speed limit

They've got a few good stories regarding wildlife (mostly rabbit, deer, hog, and vultures) out at the BBORR but my favorite regards speeds vs where you catch the bird on your car.
~80 mph and less they usually get out of the way
~100 and less they usually get out of the way but barely
~130 you stand a good chance of taking it in the windshield. Happened one year to a guy and the bird was turned inside out as it came through the windshield basically dumping all the guts on the driver.
~160 the bird is just beginning to think about taking off and you'll get it in the bumper.

Of course these are generalizations. There are some stupid birds out there.

I consider squirrels 10 points BUT if you wheelie over them then you get 40 bonus points.

It's not like I said, oh look, there's a couple birds, I'm going to try and hit them just for the fun of it. The point was, the bird flew into my path and I was just wondering if it's happened to anyone else and what you can do about it. I didn't speed up, I did slow down but by that time the bird was already in the air, and no it didn't hit me dead center in the chest and it would've hit the bike before hitting any part of me. But whatever, I'm guessing you're the type of person who likes to make pre-judgements about people without ever meeting them or talking to them. Have a nice day.
Hooked. Reel him in RacerX.....

I did hit cat once. It ran out from the shoulder as I was passing by at posted speed. I felt horrible. I think it was running out to check on it sibling already dead in the road.

I almost hit one of those scavengers - they are HUGE especially when the open their wingspan of 4-7 feet! And I wasn't going that fast, because I saw them far enough ahead and rolled off - but even then they didn't take flight until I was right on 'em anyway - the one just cleared my helmet ( or so it seemed anyway ).

I think you're lucky it didn't hit you dead-center. What are they - 5 lbs? Even at 20 mph that would suck! I wouldn't be surprised if your shoulder is pretty sore tomorrow. Pretty sure a square hit on the hand grip would've been detrimental.

I'd consider myself dang lucky to have kept it upright!

It's the stupid country dogs that aggravate me - you don't know what they're going to do. And I came across a stubborn cow once on a lesser-traveled road up that way... talk about annoying!

I actually had to swerve out of the way of a cow on 1960 one Friday night..
Don't ask me how it got there. It was just past mills rd traveling towards jones rd. You can never stop being alert for animals.. even on 1960.

Glad your okay, Next try screaming and the horn, sometimes the head lights cause animals to do weird things like fly right at you.

Also, especially with dogs, slowing down then gunning it past them usually prevents contact. Btw, you should post a picture of your jacket and consider getting checked medically just to be sure you didn't damage your shoulder because rotator cuff injuries can happen in a variety of ways. Wouldn't want you not to be able to fly the bird any more.
