so i want to take my bike to the track...

so i want to take my bike to the track, but i have no idea what to do before i actually get on the track.

do i need full gear? i only have helmet, jacket, gloves, knee protectors.

wheres a good track to go my first time?

should i get some sort of track riding lessons first?

...insert more noob questions here...

i have a feeling that buying a lot of gear will be the first step i need to take, but from there what should i do?

In the racer's lounge there is a sticky from Patrick that has several items listed there to take for a TD. See the date that you like the most and just do it, nevermind which track, which TD org, etc.

You dont have to jump in and buy a suit quite yet. Talk to Patrick and the gang at Motorcycles Unlimited(Motorcycles Unlimited, a site sponsor). They rent leathers and can check out your bike to make sure its ready for the track.

As mentioned you will need full leathers, gauntlet style gloves, boots, and I recommend a back protector.

Sign up for the beginner group and show up. Leave the ego at home and enjoy your latest addiction.

One more thing....DON'T Crash!!!

Have a good look at your tires, and replace if needed. Even if they are still good for street riding, it would probably be best to replace them for the track. A $350 set of tires is cheap when you look at how much replacement fairings and parts cost if you crash!

Ridesmart is the cheapest and they provide free boots and leathers for first time riders. You should have boots anyway, but I'd rent leathers the first time to make sure you enjoy it. I am confident you will.

The 2010 schedule is not up yet.

For your bike:

Tape up any lights and mirrors with painters tape.
Make sure you have good tread left on the tires
Check Brake Pad wear, should be more than 50% left (youll need these )
Bring a Tire Pressure Gauge
