Will do. We usually fly stand by.. (b/c it's free), but I watch the flights and if they dont look good we'll end up buying tickets!

You want to stay in Monterrey - there are good parties every night of the weekend on cannery row.

I'm glad to hear that they got the transportation stuff addressed. I left out that it was '06 when I went.

72' - yeah, that would have been nice. In '06 there was a record heat wave.

If you're a big baller you can stay in Carmel, lol.

In any case - if you have a car be sure and drive down HWY 1 south out of Carmel - it's an awesome trip with great sights. Hit up the Redwood park.

I think my cousin is trying to get a room in Monterrey through his company, I am pretty sure we will go out those nights

Yea Cannery Row, is full of parties and hot womens. I stayed in Ocenside, it was cheaper :(. Nice hotel, but certainly away from the action. We drove up Hwy 1 to San Fran. Had a nice dinner and saw the bridge. Hwy 1 was awesome, certainly take some time out of the trip to drive up and down it some.

Well, I'm planning to go with the wify and the newborn... after reading all this I'm having second thoughts... But will really try to go.
My plan is to flight out of IAH that Thursday. Will be staying at Monterrey but parties will be a NO NO for me :(...

Here are some reviews of the 2006 race on RRW:
http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/...?article=26539

I'd cut and paste some of the reviews but I think I remember that RRW doesn't like that too much....

Just a note, if you have your family, Carmel or Oceanside might be better places to stay. Carmel is super nice, but a little more expensive. Oceanside isn't bad, just nothing special. Neither are that much farther away from the track than Monterey, but might be a little quieter at night, for the baby.

I would really recommend against taking a new born. The weather is perfect, but you never know if a record heatwave may come through. I made the mistake of taking my 3mo old to the track for just a trackday. Believe me, he did not have a good time and I was left feeling guilty for putting him through it. Add the 1000's of people, bikes that are way louder than you can begin to imagine and it's a recipe for disaster to a new born. It's not easy enough to get in and out of there to even take the chance with a newborn.

As far as tickets this is my take on it...

I've been going there since the 90's with WSBK (SBK was a more enjoyable show). I've bought every pkg available and the best thing to do if you are there for the 1st time is to get a Gen Admin. Pass, & Paddoc Pass. Sitting in one place sucks and some of the best views are from the sides of the hills all around the track. Take the shuttle in. Prkg sucks. They do improve the show from year to year, but MotoGP just brings in way too may people for the place. It's too expensive for even the vendors which eliminates some of the "I can't pass on this" killer deals you could find on vendor row during the SBK days. Unless your family is as fanatical about the racing as you are, they will more than likely to like it too much cause it is a lot of to put up with. Maybe take a trip to an AMA race 1st with them. It's much more relaxed and they can learn all about the racing without having 1000 people shoulder to shoulder in a piece of space made for only 100 people.

If its possible rent a motorcycle and camp on the site. The camping was a blast a big party all weekend. and you can walk or ride to race. with easy parking for bikes with very little traffic problems the last day since you can share lanes in cali.

Well yeah I have already taken vacation time to go to the race. I just have not figured how I was going to get there yet, because I have the feeling that I am going to want to take the bike with me and motor around the landscape. I am going to get a 3 day pass and take in the full experience.

Riding there would suck, I and i dont see myself doing it. I could trailer the bike I just need a co-pilot. Any thoughts on taking the bike?

i flew there and stayed 6 days with a biker friend, he had several bikes we rode every day I think we took the truck out maybe twice in a week, it was awesome and then flew back with Colin Edwards, and family that was awesome, I hope to go every year from now on, it was cheap for me just paid for gas in the bike and a few dinners and souvieners, and Cannery row was a blast, I got several hundred pics and even sat on V. R.s M1 for a pic, It is an experience of a lifetime, my friend grew up there and showed me around everywhere for a week, even gave me an Aprilia R Factory to ride

I've gone every year since 2006, blast every time. The parking pass is totally worth the 30 bucks, you'd rather sit in traffic in your rental than wait in lines for the buses, trust me. Staying close to the track is expensive, but worth it, but you'd better make reservations now if you don't want charred holes in your wallet. Paddock passes do make it alot easier to move around, but like has been before, prepare to do some walking for sure. And if you're doing some camera work, bring all your good lenses! If anyone has any questions about hotels or whatnot, I work for Southwest so I know where all the good deals are if you don't mind staying away from the track, lol.

I was there in 2006 and decided to go at the last minute. I drove in from Sac. Traffic was an absoulte nightmare once off the main freeway on HWY 1 i wanna say it was. I parked off site and rode the bus there and that was a long wait. I had a general ticket and just watched the GP races from on top of the hill and things cleared out then i moved to the bleachers at the start/finish. Leaving was a nightmare also traffic was a mess getting back onto the main lanes. No matter what you will have a complete blast.
