Fake Sidi Boots?

Watched this for a while, asked the seller a few questions, but he never got back to me.

His account has only 16 feedback, and nothing in the past 6 months.

The boots themselves looked a bit off. One thing I noticed was the Sidi logo on the strap at the top. Most boots have the Italian flag above Sidi. I did a google search and found that to be correct, except I did find a few pics of the Sidi Vertigo without the flag. Also, some of the colors were a bit off. I did not find ANY pictures to match this guys boot 100% in any store, or on google images.

One of the things I asked the seller was if he had a box and the tags (since only worn once...). Still waiting for a response there.

I was the top bidder, however I let it go to another guy with 0 feedback because I just wasn't sure on these boots. I told him to get back to me with answers to my questions and I'd be willing to accept a second chance offer

I am sure different years use different colors, and some of the things you will see that I circled, you may be able to find in a Sidi Vertigo boot, but I looked and I could not find any Sidi boot to match this guy's.

What do you guys think? Should I take him up on a second chance?

Oh, also the vent by the zipper seems to have disappeared on the seller's boots.

Look at the pictures...

They just look crappy compared to the others, plus a lot is off.

I am aware of Vertigo Air, water, corsa... ect. If these are real, they would be Vertigo Airs I think.

Paranoid because the seller has been inactive for 6 months and the boots look funky? Right.

Obviously you don't know much about eBay and inactive sellers.

It seems like a whole lotta trouble for someone to counterfeit boots, how cheap can they make to make money? prada bags and like that is one thing when the ooriginals cost 500-2k dollars, but a 300 boot?

My take on it is this. Fakes generally exist when/where there is a market for them. Take for example all the fake Gucci, LV, Breitling, etc items that are offered as "replica". Now, mind you, most sellers offer replica due to the very high price point of originals. In this case, Sidi's aren't expensive enough to even justify a replica. There's just no market for them.

I surmise this boot is perhaps an older boot? Could be something that's been sitting in a warehouse forever, then sat in this guy's closet.. And now the literature on it has disappeared over time, and on top of that, differences in build quality can easily be explained away by the fact that passage of time and innovation have a tendency to go hand in hand.

So, an outdated boot for sale cheap on eBay. I'm pretty sure that's how a ton of online marketplaces operate.

I wouldn't worry.

Thanks to those with serious answers. I too thought about the market for it, and how cheaply it could be done. Use cheap stitching and some plastic, and you could make a pretty cheap boot, but still... who is going to go through the time to make a cheap one, only to wait a LONG time to even get a sale.

Sure enough, I got the second chance offer (no surprise).

I suppose I will take it.

That is why I didn't, and wanted to get a second opinion.

I bought the boots. The guy had instant communication, and seems pretty legit. This guy is going through a lot of work if he really is selling a fake boot for only $125.

Now to just buy new tires, and I will have all my gear and be ready to track next season. No more riding around in my hiking boots.

Then again I am one of those members...sorry I only use ebay on rare occasions. Does that make me a bad member?

Gotta run, my NY strip is almost ready.

Only when you make stupid contributions to threads.
