Flying In For Lunch, Taking A Few Race Track Pix Along The Way

I was just thinking the other day about how it’s been a while since I flew and how I need to get my ASC soon. Coincidentally, this morning my flying buddy, Jim, calls me up and says he needs to get his ASC signed-off and wanted to know if I wanted to tag along and grab some lunch in the process. “Yep, I always have time for a long lunch if it involves flying. Let’s go,” I said.

I met Jim and his CFI friend at Ellington, and we gave the Grumman Tiger a pre-flight check. Since Jim and the CFI had the front seats, I was just along for the ride, but I’m okay with that.

We headed out of Ellington on a SW heading for a Brazoria County Airport where we’d do a touch and go or two and then land grab some lunch at the Windsock Grill. (If you’ve never eaten there, I recommend the turkey wrap – yum!)

On the way back I requested Jim do a flyover of MSRH since it was only a few miles down the road. I’ve done flyovers of MSRH and other tracks in the past, but they were done with Cessna high wings and open windows, so the view was better than a low-wing Grumman with a full canopy, so sorry for the lame pocket camera pix. Still, I thought I’d share.

Sweet, thanks for the pics! Beautiful day to go flying.
I got to go inside the Guppy once. It's freakin huge! I had the thought, you could play frisbee in there, no problem.

Doood I'm glad you have some useful friends!

We're hanging on by our fingernails after Uncle/Boss screwed us. Got a few things working but nothing solid yet.

Looks like you had a nice day!

Niiice, my unlce is a pilot/instructor in Denver. Everytime I get to go there, I try to sneak a couple of flying lessons.

Great pics!
Beautiful day to be outside.

Can't believe there wasn't anybody tearing around MSRH.

Right. They can actually load sections of boosters in it and fly them around.

ASC is annual safety check, and is a Bay Area Aero Club requirement. It is not an FAA requirement, but if you're a member of BAAC, you need it to rent airplanes from the club. The CFI actually signed off this flight as a BFR (Biannual Flight Review) which is required by the FAA. Club rules allows a BFR to count as an ASC. BFR = every 2 years whereas the ASC = annually. Jim's BFR wasn’t due until May, but now the clock’s reset on it.

Wow! Look what the cat dragged in! Good to hear from you. Why aren't you installing equipment in Arkansas or Oklahoma or somewhere? Call me and gimme the scoop, my friend!
