Vest/Back Protector questions

Correct me if I'm wrong but the back protectors (ie: A* bionic back protector, or Icon Stryker CE Back Protector) can protect more because they are CE approved rather than vests that are NOT CE approved (ie: A*Bionic SP Vest or Icon Field Armor vest)

BUT the A* vest does have some front protection...

Im looking to buy one or the other for Christmas to supplement either a leather jacket or a 1-2pc suit.

This was my original plan but putting more research on it. Also, what is with everyone hating on Icon gear?

Depending on your size, I have an A* bionic back protector I need to get rid of.

I use the Icon Field Armor Vest and amd very happy with it. Origonally got it when riding trails on a dirt bike and now wear it under my leathers on the track and street. Tested it out on the dirt and one lowside on the track and still happy. Ive also worn Icon fear for a few years in the form of a few different gloves and jackets and tested them more than I care to and still happy.

Everyone hates on Icon because they are very "proud" of there products. This means you can get a similar or better quality product for the same money.

BTW I rock an Icon Field Armor vest every now and then.

you are the reason why I made this thread. Getting opinions on weather to get the vest or back protector.

What's wrong with being "proud" or is there an inside joke in that line?

On the vest debate, I have found A* bionic (150), Icon Field Armor (100), and Fieldsheer Armadillo vest ( > 100) out there. The A* one looks tough especially since it has bra-like plastic up front. Icon and Fieldsheers look exactly the same. I was actually wanting to find some rib protection but found no vest that actually protects the ribs...

I have Icon boots (more like cruiser boots) and Knee/Shin guards and so far love 'em. Parts of the boots (where sliders usually is) seem to be coming apart but I got the boots used so know's how long they've been used.

^ thus this thread me getting opinions of vest vs CE back protector only.

The question on Icon product's reliability vs. people joking around with it was just a side topic that I needed to get cleared out as well.

Icon doesnt make gear for the track. Thats where alot of trash talk comes from.

The term "being proud" means the manf thinks too highly of its own product, but its not living up to the consumers expectation for the street price. I've heard lots of negative comments about Icon stuff and have tried on several of their gear that's kinda made me avoid it now. BUT... I have heard good things about their back protectors. With the exception of this thread's open seams issue.

general complaint is that icon gear is kinda cheesy for the price. basically the assumption is that if you dont know squat about gear, you buy icon and at least look like you are wearing gear. much the same as dudes who wear TAPOUT shirts, but have never been in a ring

My HJC CL-15 helmet is a lot better than my Icon Airframe, and it's half the price.

Wear what you want, but from my own experience and what I've tried I won't buy Icon ever again.

I ordered an Icon helmet that had awesome graphics that I loved. The build and fit were very cheap (IMO) and I sent it back. HJC fits me the best by far and they have decent graphics and prices.
