Looking to buy a bike, but it has expired Registration and Inspection.

I'm new to motorcycling. This motorcycle will be my first purchase. It is a used one with expired Registration and Inspection. The registration has expired for almost 2 years and the inspection expired about 6 months ago. On top of that, the current owner never registered it from the prior owner.

Is this a red flag?

Can I resolved the registration issue without much effort?

How about inspection?

Thanks for your help!!

Depends on how title is signed.

If current owner never signed the back then you can have it transfered into your name. If he did, then he will have to register it first, else you go bonded title route.

+1 what he said... hes going to have to pay a sh*tload of fees and taxes to register it on his name first. have him register it on his name and get valid inspection first or look for another bike IMO.

Yes, the current owner signed the Title on the buyer, but as far as I can tell never registered the motorcycle.

Or go the "Affidavit of Fact", but the previous Seller will have to sign saying that he never sold it to the current owner.

Ths is a PITA because now you are dealing with someone who sold it two years ago and asking them to "lie" for you. People should register there property in a timely manner and avoid all of these type issues.

You guys are great!!

I will inform the seller on his predictment. I guess he didn't want to pay the taxes when he purchased it. The bike is currently selling for $1500. I don't think it's worth the trouble...

$1500. Depends on the bike, not that I condone (sp) it, but you might be able to get another frame.

But don't rush into buying something, especially this time of year. There is always another deal out there.

250s are easy to come by, just wait for another, hes likely selling cheap because the title situation is a pain in the .

also depends on if he actually dated the title when he signed it over. u have 20 days to register it in ur name after u buy it, but if it was never dated it can obviously be adjusted, saving u from paying the penalty. the penalty is 25 bucks or so for every month that ur past the 20 days.
