ABSOLUTE Cheapest Price on Tires

I had a guy question me today as to who sells quality tires for the absolute cheapest price. Would this be the on-line sellers (MAW, Ron Ayers, etc), the large volume chain retailers (Cycle Gear, etc), the local venders (Motorcycles Unlimited, Sonny, etc), or is there somewhere else?

He has a Liter bike that has a Bridgestone on the front (120/70R17) and a POS Shinko Advance on the rear (190/50R17). Both are done, and he wants to replace them but says he is very low on funds.

I did not have an answer to his question, as I have a couple of places that I normally buy from, but do not necessarily know if they are the cheapest.

Input????

I'm pretty sure any local vender would be comparable in their prices. What savings may be found between them can very easily be offset by their relative distances from where he lives (gas). I would just shop and wait till one of them has a Sale going on. Motorcycles Unlimited already offers 10% off to MH members, plus I'm pretty sure they'll do a check-up on his bike just to make sure all is in good working order.

He can probably save a few bucks by going online, since those vendors reach a global market, and save alot of the "middleman", distribution, or storage/warehousing costs (depending on how they operate), but then he has to add S&H, and go "shopping around" again for the cheapest place to mount it... all in the efforts to save 5 or 10 bucks +/-

Anyway, that doesn't really answer your question, as it's also info that's generally known, but what I really wanted to tell you was:
If he's that low in funds, cdill35 was selling a bunch of used tires, with a good amount of tread remaining, for about 20 bucks a pop. Maybe he can send him a PM and see if he's got any left.

There was a banner for Motorcycle superstore at the top of this page having a sale on tires.

I pulled some prices for this application

-------Pilot Power-----2CT-----Bridgestone 016
Front-----119.99------133.99------98.99
Rear------179.99------200.99-----148.99
-----------~$300-----~$335------~$248

I wonder how these would compare with what is available locally?

That's close to what most of us sell at, within $5-$15.00 depending on the tire, and what specials the distributors are running at the time.
Of course you'll have tax from local vendors, but you can also get the tire TODAY.

Margin on tires is nil, most internet sites are selling a $3-5.00 profit per tire, they can do so because they don't have stocking costs.

Obviously I'm biased, but support your local vendors, or sooner or later there won't be any, but you already knew that.

Yeah, I agree with the above. This guy was asking because he thought there was signifigant differences in the pricing.

I think my best bet would be to pull the wheels and bring them up to you and just have some tires mounted. The bike will never see track time or any aggressive riding. BT016s, Patrick?

That or even the BT021, which give better mileage, are less expensive and still give good traction.

2 Wheeled Toys is by far the cheapest on the south side. Haven't shopped anywhere north or west.

+1 on this. If you are just riding around on the street, that's a really good tire, and it should last long.

I use to do things like that, buy stuff over the web and "get the best prices" until I started going with Sunny and build a strong business relation with him.

I know that both Patrick and Sunny will help you on prices plus they offer the support and knowledge that no store online will give you. But not if you are a 1 time customer and try to get them to compete with each other to get you the best price, it doesn't work that way, at least not with them.

Build a strong relation with either one of them and don't worry about the 5 - 10 dollars you could have saved by buying online.

I've been to sunny before, good guy, very knowledgeable. If there is something I can't figure out I go to sunny.

I'm not knocking any shop down, I haven't been to Motorcycles Unlimited yet cuz it's quite a distance for me. But what I've seen online, both are top notch shops.

Now that that's out of the way, I need new tires and my suspension tuned for my fat azz.

Support your local sponsors besides having to wait a week to save $10-20 is not worth it if you don't have any problem with getting the right merchandise.
