Bought a Helmet that Doesn't Match - Advice

So, I bought a helmet before I bought a bike, because I needed one for practicing on other folks' bikes. I just bought it on Saturday from CycleGear (7 day exchange policy). If all goes well w/inspection, I plan on buying a bike this week. Bike is candy red, helmet is blue/grey/white.

Helmet is XS (yeah I have a little head).

So, question is, do I exchange for another helmet w/in the 7 days, or just keep the blue one as an extra just in case. Only thing is its an XS, so not sure if any passengers will fit it.

Should I exchange it for a bigger size and keep it as a spare for a potential passenger? Should I just keep the one I have as an extra for myself? Should I exchange it for one for myself that matches my bike?

Thoughts?

+1 colors are minor details.... wearing the lid is the important thing. If you can exchange for another one you want that "matches" then go for it, but imo it's not a big deal

Return it for what you like. You'll have buyers remorse if you dont. You'll be thinking about it the whole time. Dave's right, after a while color wont matter a whole lot. But for starters do what YOU want, you only get that first bike once!

I will never try to match bike and lid again. In the future stay with colors and graphics that match anything.

Its a matter of preference. Your first wont be your last bike. Same w gear.
If someone wants to accuse me of wearing last year's model of gear I'll throw the hetero card.

Some people can never get it right. Amateurs:

poseonkatana
iriderails

Some do match:

That is the easiest way to go about it.

Just remember that Black, and Silver will pretty much go with MOST bikes.

As long as your head is protected when you ride, the color shouldn't matter.

Personally who cares if it matches. It is there for protecting your DOME. Keep it, ride with it and buy another later on. Put some miles and sweat on it.

Everyone else is right, nothing better than being well protected. (Except being well protected and matching!) lol...

I know it doesn't matter safety wise. That's not the issue. I WILL be wearing a helmet, regardless of the color, but I prefer it to coordinate to some extent. Candy Red bike and blue/grey/white helmet = no match at all. Yes, to some extent I want to look "together." Call it feminine, call it shallow, call it whatever you like, it's still MY preference...

Bottom line is this: I will eventually get a helmet that matches my bike. So that leaves me with either: (1) an extra helmet that will probably not fit any potential passengers; (2) an extra helmet for myself for whatever reason; or (3) one helmet for myself that matches (assuming I exchange the one I have).

If I do not exchange it, I will end up getting a second helmet that matches eventually regardless. So, does it make sense to have an extra helmet for myself or a potential passenger, considering it's an XS and probably won't fit too many people? (Although I do not plan on having passengers anytime soon.)

I'm leaning towards exchanging it for something i want.

Do the exchange. Keep in mind that you will likely have another bike in the future. Unless you want to buy new lids, get a neutral color.

Matching is overrated anywho...

thats me down there; i had crashed not to long before that and ruined my gear...so I borrowed various unmatching gear so i could ride sooner. And if u have an XS head, stick with XS- the smaller and tighter the helmet...the better!

l 5f429ffc5fe083c1c240e38bb8508ecb

oh, and the gloves i was putting on.....they were BLUE. lol

so in one day i had red, yellow, silver/grey, blue, white, and black. - i still had a of a ride that day

Just don't wear a helmet.

Really, it doesn't matter if your helmet matches your bike, buy the helmet you like, and the bike you like, you are gonna end up replacing one or the other or both at some point anyway.
